Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Grandfather's MSS ????
« on: Saturday 14 September 24 21:04 BST (UK)  »
It’s amazing they still survive today - they were discovered in an old suitcase in a partially collapsed loft in an house which had apparently been cleared a few years ago. They refer to events as far back as the 1840’s, and ancestors born in the late 1700’s, so a real treasure find for my family history.

Within this envelope are 15 pages of recollections by 'grandfather' and written on the envelope is 'Grandfather's MSS (copy)'. Does anyone know what MSS might stand for? Thanks.

Ancestry has the image
John Blackham is a Nailer and so is his father.
There is no father for Eliza Ball
Witnesses are John Blackham made his mark and Sarah Blackham signed
Bride and Groom also made their mark.

Bride and Groom are  bachelor and spinster

Thanks!

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Duffield marriage 1881 lookup request

From familysearch I can see a transcribed entry which appears to only give partial information:
John Blackham, single, 30, son of John Blackham, married 15 Dec 1881 at Duffield to Eliza Ball, single, 20.
I'd like to know if the actual record shows:
- John's occupation?
- the occupation of John's father?
- address given for John or Eliza?
- name given for father of Eliza Ball?
- names of marriage witnesses?
- confirmation that John is shown as a bachelor?
Thank you.
