Hi
Francois Joseph Dumont was my late father, (1918 - 1997). He received the Legion of Honour for services to France during WWII.
He was in the RAF 342 (Lorraine) squadron as a rear gunner / radio operator on Douglas Boston aircraft based in Norfolk UK. He flew low-level bombing missions over France and occupied western Europe.
He was torpedoed will travelling as a passenger on the SS Mendoza off Durban in 1942. He was later shot down over Falaise in northern France in 1944, where two of his crew were killed.
You will find more info here about his extraordinary life.
