Thanks for that clarification, always wondered why there were no parents given? Is it therefore possible that Matthew was a base child of Mary Davey who was subsequently baptised in 1820 after she had married Thomas Kingdon but retained the Davey surname?
Following on - I also have a Thomas Kingdon bapt. 04.01.1721 North Molton with parents Thomas & Mary (Davey)? He weds Christian Maire & they have at least 6 kids alll born & baptised in Charles between 1743 & 1755.

Devon / Re: Charlotte VOYSEY/KINGDOM - South Molton 1840s

The Charlotte Kingdon shown in 1851 is a house servant for Hodskin family. I have her as the daughter of Abraham Kingdon (1772) & Mary Bishop and baptised in South Molton 14.04.1818.
In 861 she is a Cook with the same Hodskin family now living in Woolwich, London. In 1871 she is in Rochester, Kent, still cooking for same family (now recorded as Hodgkin?)
I did not find her in 1881 Census. Believe that she may have died 1885 in South Molton age 63?
Have no records of Charlotte Kingdon (nee Veysey/Voysey) in any census?

Fully agree with lizdb on trusting online trees!
I believe that your Matthew Kingdon was baptised in North Molton 01.08.1720 and married Mary Jones, both of High Bray on 12.08.1743 in High Bray.
I have transcript of his North Molton baptism in 1720 but no parents are shown ..... so could be wrong? (I have double checked all Devon parish records for a Matthew Kingdon and nothing shows for any other parish)?
I believe that he died age 76 and was buried in High Bray on 25.12.1796.

Notes: This is Bruce Kingdon who was born in Barnstaple, England on 21.04.1888; He was the Son of John E. Kingdon (b.1855), of Barnstaple, England, a Fisherman, Shipbuilder & Bargeman & Elizabeth Limebear, also from Barnstaple; (She may have been previously married as there is a Stepdaughter recorded living with the family in the 1891 Census called Elizabeth Jane Limebear, b.1875 Barnstaple); At the time of his Death in France, Bruce Kingdon was the Husband of Reta Viola Kingdon of 249, Kilbride Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba; In 1891 Bruce Kingdon lived with his parents in Potters Lane, Barnstaple, his Father was a Fisherman; In the 1901 English Census, Bruce Kingdon was aged 13 & living with his parents at #10, Signal Terrace, Barnstaple, Devon, his Father is a Shipwright & Bargeman; Bruce Kingdon probably emigrated to Canada on 21.07.1910 to visit his step sister Elizabeth Limebeer, who had married Richard Johns in Barnstaple in 1899 & emigrated to Manitoba, Canada in 1905, on the ‘SS Empress of Britain’ from Liverpool to Quebec; Bruce Kingdon is Rooming with another Policeman & his family in Winnipeg City in the 1911 Census of Canada, he is a Winnipeg City Policeman, but this record indicated that he had arrived in Canada in 1906 & not in 1910?; Bruce Kingdon married Reta Viola Wilson on 02.11.1911 in Winnipeg, Manitoba; Private Bruce Kingdon enlisted at the age of 27 in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on 17.05.1915 stating that he was an ex Winnipeg City Policeman & that he had previously served with the Royal Garrison Artillery, (Volunteers) in Devonshire, England; His attestation papers give his birth date of 21.04.1888 in Barnstaple, Devon, England & indicate that he was already married; His first attestation number was A23151, which was subsequently changed to #622376 when he joined the 44th Overseas Battalion, CEF; His unit sailed from Halifax to England on 23.10.1915 on the ‘SS Lapland’; During January 1916 Bruce Kingdon was admitted to Bramshott Hospital in England suffering with muscle rheumatism; He embarked for France on 31.08.1916; His wife was then living at #273 Atlantic Avenue, winnipeg in Canada; This soldier was one of 37 Other Ranks & 3 Officers who were killed during the 44th Battalion Operation Order #9; This was a failed attempt to capture a portion of ‘Regina Trench’ in the ‘Bricklands’ area of the Somme, due to  insufficient Artillery Barrage, on the day of 25.10.1916; I understand that his wife remarried to a William Arnold Drenner in Winnipeg on 01.04.1918 & lived at #478, Slater Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; Awarded the Victory & British War Medals; He was not eligible for the 1914-15 Star; (He was probably the Brother of Kingdon, John (Jack): #49756 Sergeant, Royal Field Artillery, 1914-1920 WO 372/23); (The Brother of Kingdon, George: #45713, Gunner, Royal Field Artillery & #174744 Sergeant George Kingdon of the Royal Garrison Artillery); (He was also the Brother of Sydney John Kingdon WW1 Merchant Seaman);

Kingdon, Sydney John: Merchant Seaman; BT/351/1/607 WW1;
Notes: There is a Medals Record Card for a Sidney John Kingdon shown in the WW1 Board of Trade Merchant Seaman’s Medals; I believe that this is Sydney John Kingdon born 1882 in Barnstaple Devon; He was the son of John E. Kingdon (b.1855), of Barnstaple, England, a Fisherman, Shipbuilder & Bargeman & Elizabeth Limebeer from Barnstaple who married in ?? (she may have been previously married as there is a stepdaughter in 1891 Census); (Many members of this family emigrated to Manitoba in Canada ca.1906); In 1891 Sydney J. Kingdon was aged 8, a scholar, but recorded as living as an In Patient in the North Devon Infirmary in Barnstaple, Devon; There is no indication of his illness; In the 1901 Census Sydney Kingdon was aged 19 & living with his parents in #10, Signal Terrace, Barnstaple, Devon, his Father is a Shipwright & Bargeman, Sydney is a Bargeman working on his own account; In 1902 there are Ship’s Records for the “Wheatear”, #48880 out of Poole in Dorset, which has reference  to Sydney J. Kingdon (b.1881 Barnstaple) being a member of the Crew of the ‘Wheatear’ having joined 05.01.1902 in Newport as an Able Seaman but having left this ship on 15.02.1902 in Bristol; The record shows that his previous ship in 1901 was the “Acacia” out of Barnstaple; I understand that Sydney John Kingdon moved to Swansea in Wales as he appears to have Married a Mary Emily Sullivan, b.1889 Swansea, in Swansea in 1908; In the 1911 Census Sydney John & Emily Kingdon live at #81, Colbourne Terrace, Swansea, Glamorgan, wales, he is a General Labourer; I have no other records except that Sidney J Kingdon probably Died in 1947 in Wolverhampton at the age of 64; Further research  required to find his WW1 Merchant Seaman Records; (He was the Brother of Kingdon, John (Jack): Royal Field Artillery No: 49756 Rank: Sergeant 1914-1920 WO 372/23); (He was also the Brother of Kingdon, Bruce: #622376, Private, Canadian Infantry (New Brunswick Regiment); who died aged 27 on 25th October 1916 in the Area of the Somme); (He was also the Brother of #174744 Sergeant George Kingdon of the Royal Garrison Artillery);

Devon / Re: pre 1837 Marriage - George Nympton
« on: Tuesday 23 November 21 21:35 GMT (UK)  »
Your Grace Ridd query from ages ago?
She was baptised 07.02.1810 in George Nympton. Parents were George & Elizabeth Ridd.
She wed John Hamelin Kingdon, (bapt.24.07.1811 East Buckland) on 07.04.1835 in either George Nympton or in South Molton? (However, his parents are shown as John & Ann Kingdon but I believe this should be John & Johanna Thomas who married in South Molton 28.04.1807. John Kingdon was a Tailor & a Baker. John Hamelin Kingdon was also a Tailor. John Hamelin Kingdon was a witness at the marriage of John & Johanna Kingdon's daughter Sarah Thomas Kingdon (bapt. 28.03.1820 Charles) marriage to Thomas Lawford in Holborn, London on 12.04.1857. This is the thinking behind my John Hamelin Kingdon link to John Kingdon & Johanna Thomas being their son.
