Thanks!  I knew the meaning of a. s. n. and W.  But I couldn't quite decide if it looked like Alex r (with a superscript r) or not.  But it makes sense that it is.  I believe Alexander was a fairly common given name in that time.

Once again, I'm coming to the experts for some deciphering help.  Here's where I am with the attached Scottish (Edinburgh) 1690 baptism record.

- Could the occupation for John Boyd be "Garndner," i.e. an old spelling of Gardner? 
- I have no clue about the occupation of Alexander Mosman.
- Alexander Mosman and Alexander Malcolm...I'm thinking the names that look sort of like "Alenk" are abbreviations for Alexander, but I'm not at all sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

davecapps, Thank You so much!  "Berner Gebieth" is fascinating.  I've seen that (and "Berner Gebiet") and ""Berner Gebieths") in some other places, always (I think) in the context of Bern, Switzerland.  Bern is about 320 km from Walsheim, where this record is from.  A "surviving daughter" from Bern, Switzerland?  Hmm.  Or is there a "Berner" Area in Germany?
