Thank you, I seem to have all the right information on Thomas and Robert you’ve given me, but not their relationship to each other. Alas, I don’t have findmypast to to see their Wills, it’s something I must look into subscribing to, I’ve used Ancestry for nearly 20 years. Something I didn’t know was the maiden name of Sarah Senior, thats really helpful.

I was recently in Stanton by Bridge and took photos of the Ward headstones, they are in one area near the church, this is what made search for a connection between the two Ward men.

Family History Beginners Board / Wards of Stanton by Bridge Derbyshire

My 5x great grandfather was Thomas Ward born 1755, he was the Parish Clerk at St Michael Stanton by Bridge Derbyshire. He married Elizabeth Gregory in 1779. From the village 1801 census, which the reverend George Greaves compiled, Thomas is with his wife, son and mother in law. He is recorded as Parish Clerk and gardener. In the same census Robert Ward born 1762 and his wife Jane and family are recorded. Can anyone help me to find out how these two men are related. They are the only 2 Ward families in this 1801 census, the same again in the 1821.
