Westmeath / Re: William and Alexander Savage
« on: Friday 01 September 06 11:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi Twinkleberry

Thanks again for the information you have been able to find.  Having done a few calculations and checked the information I already have, I am certain the information you have found regarding the deaths of Alexander and Sarah Savage and their family and the marriages of both Alexander and William ARE all details about my family.  I do not think, however, that the arrival from overseas information about William and Alexander Savage is about my ancestors as the ages at the time of travel do not match the ages at the time of marriage.

I found some information that I found in the SA Maritime Museum over 25 years ago - when I first started to trace my tree.  In that information I found a William Savage (16) and Alexander Savage (15) who arrived from Plymouth on 2/12/1855 on the Royal Albert.

If it is possible to check to see whether this information is correct, I think the dates will match up better with the birthdates of the William and Alexander that you have provided the other information for.

Once again, thank you so much for the information you have found so far.  I look forward to hearing from you again.

Kind regards
Abbyrose :D

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: Herschell Thompson
« on: Tuesday 11 July 06 13:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi Susan

Thanks for your message.  I am a bit wary about ordering a certificate for somebody until I know it is the right person, especially as Herschell seems to be a name which may have been handed down through each generation of this line and could well have been handed down another line of the Thompson family.  I've been bitten before by doing that too - and ended up with certificates for people who are not related at all.

In Australia we have CSs which are available through local libraries and genealogy societies that list all of the births, deaths and marriages, going back beyond about 100 years.  I guess, by your message, that this is not an option in the UK.  If I can find out more information about where Herschell was born (other than Durham) and/or where his parents were married, do you think the parish records might provide anything more definite?

Thanks for your help on this.  Maybe we will eventually find out how James and Lavinia fit into the picture too!!

Kind regards

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: Herschell Thompson

Thanks Valda and Susan

I would think the Walter Thompson that appears in the 1891 and 1901 cencus was the father of the Herschell Thompson I am looking for, who was born in around 1905.  He was probably named after his father's brother Herschell.

Do either of you know how I can check the exact birthdate for Walter Herschell Thompson who was born in the June 1/4 of 1907 and confirm who his parents were -  or is this information not readily available in the UK (I am in Australia).

I'd be grateful for your advice in this regard.

Thanks a lot

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Birth Lookup Request
« on: Tuesday 11 July 06 05:08 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering whether anybody would have access to the actual birth date for Doris Tagg who was born in Middleton/Oldham, Greater Manchester, Lancashire in around 1907 or 1908.

Her parents were James and Amelie and we think she dies on 14 Jan 1939 in Maltby, Yorkshire.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Durham Lookup Requests / Herschell Thompson
« on: Tuesday 11 July 06 05:06 BST (UK)  »
I am fairly new to RootsChat and am not sure whether it is possible to have births looked up in the UK.

If it is possible, I am trying to find out when Herschell Thompson was born in Durham.  I believe it was around 1905 and his parents were Walter and Charlotte.  Herschell died at sea on 2 Jul 1941 when the "Arandora Star" was sunk during WWII.

Any information anybody can provide would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes, I know of this birth.  When I requested a copy of the birth certificate for Anne Maria Ward born in 1949, the certificate for this birth is what I received.  Unfortunately, I don't think this is the right person, as Anne (or Ann) Maria's marriage certificate says her father's name was John.

Hi Jenn
Thank you for this information.  I'm pretty sure this isn't my ancestor, because of the year you mentioned.  Thomas Tregoning was either 28 or 23 at the time of his marriage in 1868 - I'm pretty sure it is 28 but it is a bit hard to read on the certificate.  So, that would mean he was born in 1840 or 1845, making him only 21 or 16 in 1861.  I know you said ages can very by a couple of years, but do you think this is too much of a variation?

Thanks heaps for this Magoo.  This could very well be the right family, as nobody has been able to locate a birth for Sarah in about 1842 in South Australia.  Now I just need to confirm whether Ann Maria Ward was born to John and Martha in South Australia in around 1849.  If so, then we have a match.  So far, nobody has been able to confirm a birth for Ann (or Anne) Maria Ward in South Australia at around this time.  Are you able to check this for me at all?  If so, it would be appreciated.

It would be appreciated if somebody could check to see whether Sarah Ward was born in South Australia in around 1842.  I believe her father would have been John Ward.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
