Thank you for all your input. I agree that the next step is to obtain original birth certificates for the two boys.

Do you think then, in your opinion that Lawrence may not have been related and that it is pure coincidence regarding maiden name and other information?

I have checked the birth register and they both come up with the same mothers maiden name (Watson). However I have checked mine and other family tree information and Lawrence does not appear. Also on 1939 census he(Patrick snr) is seen living in Sheffield with Dorothy whom he married in 1938.

Spouse
Dorothy Margaret Emily watson (–1999)
Married 1938
Children
Private (–)
Margaret P (1939–)
Patrick M (1940–)

I am really confused.

Thanks for that. I have already gone down that road and it is the wrong Doogan. Following your previous advice I have looked at marriage records and it does appear that Patrick snr did marry twice (although cannot find divorce record). Patrick Jnr was born to first wife, along with older sister. He was sent to Australia but Lawrence does not appear on their records. He is however on the same ship sent to freemantle in 1953. This I do not understand.

When Margaret Pendlebury was born on 16 July 1927 in Northwich, Cheshire, her father, George, was 27, and her mother, Hannah, was 24. She married Patrick Doogan in June 1950 in her hometown. They had one child during their marriage. She died on 12 October 1993 in Cheshire at the age of 66.

Which female child?  Yes I am 90% certain that they are part of my ancestry as a lot of the dates and names tally. It is ascertaining somehow that Patrick snr had been married previously.  There is also the missing information as to were Patrick snr was born.

The tree could well be mine.

I have a birth place for Lawrence Doogan as Filey Yorkshire so could be further information on this track.
Nothing for Patrick jnr as on his NH records it indicates no birth certificate available.

Thanks very much for this information.  It confirms a lot of what I have found about the running of NH. Still it is beneficial to know it is an avenue that is possibly closed therefore won't waste time pursuing it.
