Stirlingshire / Gardiner family
« on: Wednesday 09 December 09 23:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone.
I am researching my Gardiner family from Falkirk Scotland.
Alexander Gardiner born 1707 married Elizabeth Gibb born 1705 from what I can see they had 9 children.
Their son James Gardiner born 1738 Polmont Scotland married Margart Watt born 1735. Marriage 1759 Polmont. Can only find 2 children so far James Gardiner born 1763 married Jean Gardiner born 1763 both born Polmont married 1789 Polmont had 6 children.
The other child born to James & Margaret Watt was Mary Gardiner born 1761 no other information.
One of James & Jean's sons, John Gardiner born 1801 Bennetston christened Polmont married Rosannah Robertson daughter of David Robertson and Margaret Ferrier in 1823 Polmont. They had 9 children one died young. The other 8 came with parents to Australia.
Any connections to these families.
Any help appreciated. Cheers

Hi Val what a wonderful gesture. I would love to have a photo of a place called "Polmont House". When my GGrandfather came to Australia he fashioned his house on the one in Polmont called Polmont House. His name was John Gardiner born 1801 in Bennetston christened Polmont Stirling. His parents were James Gardiner & Jean Gardiner both born 1763. James parents were James & Margaret Watts.  I don't know who Jean's parents were.
If you can help that would be great.
wishes all

Angus (Forfarshire) / Re: FERRIER of Angus
« on: Wednesday 09 December 09 23:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all I live in Australia and have a Margaret Ferrier born about 1767 Arbroath Scotland supposedly daughter of David Ferrier and Jean Lyell. This could be wrong. She married a Robertson, I think David. Their daughter Rose Ann or Rosannah Robertson was born 1801 in Carron Falkirk Scotland. I have a date of marriage for David Robertson and Margaret Ferrier 26 January 1795 Arbroath Angus Scotland. Does anyone know anything about this family?
Rosannah married John Gardiner in 1823 and came to Australia 1849 with their 8 children.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Kath, have you obtained the book on the Pigdons. I could possibly get you a copy if they are not all gone. It was put out by my cousin who was a Pigdon.
The book has heaps of photos of the Pigdons and the story when they arrived in Australia with lots of very interesting stories. I have read it twice and couldn't put it down.
Send me your email privately and I will get the information to you.
cheers for now

If you give me some names of the ones who came to Australia I maybe able to help you.

Australia / Re: John BROWN - immigration
« on: Wednesday 09 December 09 04:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,
Speaking on John Brown I have a query.
My John Browne with an E came from York to Geelong.
I have his marriage his birth but the only thing I cannot find is when he came to Australia and went to Geelong.
He was a law stationer in Geelong and an artist.
He married Jane Greenwood in England in 1847.
They had 2 children in England Anne & Isabel.
I cannot find any shipping records for them. Their next child Joseph Browne was born in 1855 in Newtown Geelong.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Australia / Re: BDM Victoria
« on: Wednesday 09 December 09 03:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all. This is a hint to a lot of Victorians having to purchase certificates. There is a site called Certificate Sharing which is a free site where you can upload and download photos, certificates etc.

Also, if you know the year they died look up some of the most popular cemetery records like Fawkner which includes a couple of others and Springvale which is free to look up. They will give you dates of birth and dates of deaths in most cases. You can also freely ring them and they will give you information on the phone. They are both great cemeteries to research. Geelong is another one free to look up.
Hope this helps.
