A MEMORIAL WINDOW UNVEILED.
A window in memory of the mother and sisters of Mr. M. T. Black, Harrogate, has been unveiled and dedicated in St. John’s, Ardrossan.
The donor is Mr. M. T. Black, son of the Rev. David Black, former minister of Tillicoultry. Those commemorated by the window were for many years members of St. John’s Church, Ardrossan.
The window, entitled “Jesus in the House of Martha and Mary,” has been designed and executed by Mr. Walter J. R. Cook, D.A. (Edinburgh), who recently was commissioned to supply the Haig windows in the Scots Kirk, Aldershot. It was dedicated by the Rev. Dr. Adamson, minister of St. John’s.

Could  " St Ang... " be HMS St Angelo in Malta? Originally in 1912, it was HMS Egmont, then it became a Mediterranean base for the Royal Navy and in 1933 was renamed HMS St Angelo.

Hello - I know i am resurrecting an old thread, but if q98 is still interested in information about the Tait family, i have some to share. Jessie Tait was my Great-grandmother. If anyone has a way of connecting me to q98, i'd appreciate it.
Hi JJI
Thanks and sincere apologies for tardy response. My sister who resides in Ayrshire, Scotland possesses several photographs of Tait family members which she believes rightfully belong to their extended family Should you read this, please respond and I will endeavour to put you both in contact. q98

If you purchased that scan from TNA, request a better scan. That is pitiful.

Hi there. As Saltcoats born & bred I know precisely where you visited despite emigrating more than 50 years ago. As a boy (now 74), I recall many badly weathered headstones. Probably your best source of information is the following website:

Armed Forces / Re: HMHS Maine - how did she get to Korea?

Your assumption is correct, Discharge by Purchase is exactly that. The member purchases his discharge; mine cost me £250 in 1972 with 4 years of a 9 year engagement remaining. I found the RN overbearing and class-ridden, left for Australia, joined the RAAF, served for 20 years and retired a Warrant Officer. The difference between both Services was night and day.
