You don’t give any indication as to his nationality, was he Belgian or British, if British have you checked  to see if the death was recorded by the British Consulate. If so you should be able it obtain a British death certificate.

One thing to consider is the circumstances, if the parents divorced, or one of them was widowed and then remarried. If they wanted the new spouse to have equal legal parental rights, the children would be adopted by both the  birth parent and the new spouse.

I found a family Bible for sale in an antiquarian bookshop. I have also obtained old family documents by simply doing a Google search of the family names. It’s always worth a try.

A lot of nonconformists were baptised in both non and C of E  churches to ensure they qualified for parish assistance.

A lot of my paternal line were nonconformist and were baptised in both.

I’m not particularly familiar with the American rules of consanguinity, but I believe they are stricter than in the UK.

Hopefully someone with greater knowledge will be able to answer your  question.

Yes, her dress fits with WW1 era. Presumably he was born in Cardiff as well as baptised there, not Bristol as you said? That would account for why I had not found his birth.

I agree with the dates, he’s wearing the economy uniform with no pleats in the pockets.

Did he have a middle name?
