Durham / Re: Mary Ann Brown - unfortunately!

No, it comes from the 1841, 1851 & 1861 Census entries for Thomas Brown & his family. Mary Ann was included in those for 1841 & 1851. She married John Cursiter Flett in 1857.
In 1841 the family was in Ayres Quay, Bishopwearmouth. Thomas was a bottle manufacturer.
In 1851 they were in Hill Field, Bishopwearmouth. Thomas was a glass maker.
In 1861 they were in Back Harrison Street, Bishopwearmouth. Thomas was a glass bottle maker.

If you also look in the England Select Marriages database on Ancestry you'll find that her father was recorded as Thomas Brown.

Mary Ann's father Thomas was a glass maker, the same as his father William Brown (born abt 1773 in Monkwearmouth).

William Brown married Margaret Little (born abt 1771 in Stanhope) on the 2nd of August 1794 at St Thomas the Apostle Parish Church, Stanhope.

They had ten children of which Thomas was the fourth.

Thomas and his wife Mary had five children of which Mary Ann was the last.

Hi aidansrest
Mary Ann Brown was my 1st Cousin 4xremoved. She was born in Bishopwearmouth on the 13th of March 1835 and baptised at St Michael & All Angels Parish Church, Bishopwearmouth, on the 28th of March 1838. Her parents were Thomas Brown & Mary (Unknown). She was the last of their five children.
She married John Cursiter Flett in St Peter's Parish Church, Monkwearmouth, on the 13th of August 1857.
I have plenty more info if you are interested.

My apologies for not replying sooner

Thanks very much to all those who replied to my post with really great information. It appears that Duntarvie is the location. I also found information on other sites that confirms that Alexander did indeed marry twice.

Thank you so much.

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / Questions regarding an OPR Baptism record in Abercorn
« on: Tuesday 19 November 19 00:05 GMT (UK)  »
I've just downloaded some OPR Baptism records for the Meikle family in Abercorn in the 1730's and there are a couple of things that I need help with.

Firstly, the father, Alexander Meikle, was shown as a Tenent in Dundervie (possibly Dunlervie). I'm assuming that meant he was a tenant farmer but where/what was Dundervie.

Secondly, on the record for their first son Robert (1731), he is described as "their first son of the second marriage". Does this mean that one of the parents had been married before or is there another meaning. None of the records for their subsequent children included a reference to their marriage.

Thanks,

Lancashire / Re: Looking for Stephen Ramsay Brown
« on: Friday 08 November 19 07:42 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you amondg & chempat for the information. Yes, I did know about Hilda's marriage to Knott. Hilda S. Humphreys married George T. Knott in 4th Qtr 1945 in Blackpool RD.

Septimus married a second time in June 1945 in Lancaster, to a Joyce Billsdon. So it appears likely that Septimus, Hilda and Stephen moved to Lancashire from Hendon, possibly together, sometime between 1939 and 1945.

Yes, I will think about applying for Stephen's will.
