Hi,

I am very interested in any information you have found on this accident - William Matthews is my 3xgreat-grandfather.

I found some details in the Warwick records office just before Christmas about William's widow (Mary Ann Matthews) and their children all receiving pensions following the accident. Unfortunately the printer was broken and I couldn't get a copy.

I plan to visit again next week.

Best regards,

Mark Ashwell

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Re: St Helier Marriage 1839 - MURLEY / SHORT

Hi Stewart,

Many thanks for the information you have found on the Toogood-Bowden marriage.

Regarding the Murley/Short marriage;-

I know that Charlotte Ann Toogood (Harriett's sister) married Thomas Gapper Murley on 10th September 1835 at St Helier.  They had a daughter  - Elizabeth Charlotte Murley, who was born in Halkett St, and Christened at St Helier on 15th April 1838. Thomas Murley died 2 weeks later - and was buried at St Helier on 30th April 1838.

In the 1841 census (Ref: HO 107 / 1461 / 8, page 26) Charlotte "Short" is living in Ann Street, Portland Place with Joseph Short - a Baker, Elizabeth (who is incorrectly named Short), and Henry Short.

In 1851 - now living in Bath Street, Elizabeth still appears as "short"

The 1861 census correctly lists her as Elizabeth C Murley - stepdaughter of Joseph Short.

But Henry is the son of Charlotte and Joseph. I had assumed that they married after Thomas died, and before the 1841 census.

Maybe I incorrectly jumped to the conclusion that they were married before 1841. Elizabeth's surname is listed incorrectly, so perhaps Charlotte's was also and she was still a "Murley". I guess they could have married after 1841 or not at all! - but from then onwards they lived as Husband and Wife

Again it was my assumption that they married at St Helier based on the locations above.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Regards and best wishes,

Mark

(bye-the-way Elizabeth Charlotte Murley is my Great-great-grandmother)

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / St Helier Burial/Death 1871-1881 - SHORT

Hi,

I am looking for the death of Charlotte Ann Short, or Charlotte's burial at St Helier - sometime between 1871 an 1881.

In the 1871 census she is living in Beresford St, but by the time of the 1881 census, her husband Joseph is a widower living on Colomberie - St Helier.

Regards, and best wishes,

Mark

Hi,

I am looking for the marriage of Charlotte Ann MURLEY to Joseph Lot SHORT, sometime between April 1838, and April 1841, at St Helier.

I am also looking for the marriage of Harriet Talitha TOOGOOD to Augustus Shirley Paganini Bowden around 1855-1860 also at St Helier.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Mark

Many thanks Mike,

Shame about poor Thomas - I suppose that's why Charlotte is living or married to Joseph Smart in 1841 (St Helier 9) and subsequent censuses.

Thanks again,

Mark

(Just in case anyone with an interest reads this in years to come.... Elizabeth Murley later married Charles Taylor in London - 1872)

Hi,

I am wondering if you have any links or information on my 3xGreat-Grandfather?

He was Thomas Papper MURLEY - born in Ottery St.Mary on 7th January 1812, and baptised at the Independent Church in Ottery St.Mary on 8th November 1812. His parents were Richard and Elizabeth.

Best wishes,

Mark.

Hella all,

Any help would be greatly appreciated with my remaining 19C brickwall.

Looking for the Birth of (my Great-great-grandmother) Elizabeth Charlotte MURLEY.  On subsequent censuses her birthplace is listed as St Helier, circa 1837.

Her father was Thomas Papper MURLEY and mother was Charlotte, both were born in England.

I would also like to find Thomas and Charlotte's marriage record (if they were married!) to find Charlotte's maiden name.

Don't know what happened to Thomas, but by 1841 Charlotte was living with a Joseph SMART.

Thank-you and Best wishes

Mark

Many thanks Casalguidi,

I'm sure that's him!

His occupation is spot on, and I believe Beauvoir Terrace was off Kingsland Road.

Thanks again,

Mark
