Mayo / Re: Carney and McGough marriage abt 1864

It is certainly possible that there were two Ann McGough born about the same time. The main reason for my post was to try and discover if my Anne was the same as the Anne McGough Carney.

However, I still doubt the the father of Anne M Carney was a Mick. I have found many errors is RC birth and marriage digital records and would not be surprised that this one is not correct either. My grandfather (Patrick McGough, b 1840) was the older brother of Anne McGough born to Patrick McGough and Anne Ronane and I thought he may have been the witness listed on the marriage record; he left Ireland in 1867.

None of four children (born to Patrick McG and Anne R) stayed connected as they grew older and thus finding a descendant that knows more about Anne (b 1848) and James (b 1853) has been nearly impossible. Since Robert Carney and Anne McGough had eight children, I am hoping to find one of their descendants that know more.

Thanks for the comments; let me try and clear up my mess.
(a). First the facts of my Anne McGough: She was born in September 1848 and the baptism record is shown in Aglish RC Parish September 10 1848. She was born to Patrick McGough (b abt 1818) and Anne Ronane (b abt 1820). Patrick and Anne had their first child in 1840, and they lived in Mt Gordon; all birth records for their four children are shown as baptized in Aglish RC parish. The grandson of Patrick McGough and Anne Ronane (Peter) McGough actually lived in the home in 1901 and 1911. All other parents, children and grandchildren had moved-on (or died) by 1901.
(b). It is not clear what happened to two of the children born to Anne Ronane and Pat McGough (there names were Anne b 1848 and James b 1853). I did find the marriage record and census records for Anne McGough married to Robert Carney in 1864, but it shows the marriage in Burriscarra RC parish. The address for Anne is listed as Dearleash West (possibly Devleash West?), but that location does seem a bit far from Mt Gordon. The 1901 census shows Anne’s age as 52 and the 1911 census shows her age as 67. The census in 1911 shows they were married abt 1863. The census shows they lived in Forfield, or Gowel (Aghagower North, Mayo).
My research shows three Ann McGoughs born in South Mayo between 1845 and 1850, and none had a father named Mick. Their names began with initials A, P, and J.
I have been trying to show that (a) & (b) above are the same Anne, but I guess without the original records, transcript errors will block my progress.

Mayo / Re: MORAN family from Ballinrobe, Mayo

Interesting item:
I find only one digital birth record in Mayo that is close to a match.
In Ballinrobe RC parish, a Batty Moran is listed as born in 1865 to Kitty Smith and Batty Moran.
Could be that the error occurs in transcription
Found this on RootsIreland.ie

I guess I should mention that Anne McGough was born near Castlebar in Mount Gordon. The birth home stayed in the family until about 1900.
There were 4 Anne McGoughs born between 1843 and 1848.
None had a father with given name initial of M (three J, One A, and Patrick).

My Anne was born to Patrick. Of course, I am trying to complete the link between Anne McGough Carney and my Anne McGough. Hope I didn't confuse the issue by saying Anne McGough Carney was born in Mount Gordon.

Re 1865: I guess that is the first son of Robert and Anne. I believe they had 8 children, from 1865 to 1886 (names in order of birth: Michael, Mary, John, Patrick, Bridget, Anne, Thomas and Catherine)

Yes, I show the same name in the civil marriage. However, the other records including having the same witnesses would indicate spelling variations of Carney and Kearney. I guess the original would be needed to see why this variation could have occurred.

I do not have the original GRO certificate

Here is what I have:
The certificate from RootsIreland.ie:  24 August 1865, Robert Carney, Anne McGough, RC, Fathers were Carney and McGough

From Mayo Family History Centres (Office of Genealogy records of County Mayo): 27August, Robert Kearney, Anne McGough, Fathers were Mick Kearney and Mick McGough (I believe this given name should be Pat), marriage in Burriscarra Parrish, Wife's address is Dearleash West, Wife's age 18, husbands age 25 and address Triangle

Both have the Witness as Patt (Patrick) McGough and Mary Kelly

From my past experience, I found names to vary greatly in spelling and the parents given names were sometimes incorrect; therefore, I have tried to get other supporting records. In this case, the birth record of Anne is very close to a match and the 1901 census, for Robert Carney and Anne, appears close.
