Meath / Knockcommon - birth registers
« on: Thursday 11 October 07 09:12 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know which church parish Knockcommon comes under?

I'm trying to trace the birth of Patrick Halpin in the 1840s and I've found a family which seems likely from the Griffiths Valuation. They are living in Rathdrinagh, Knockcommon but I can't find a reference to any registers specifically for Knockcommon.

Many thanks,
Pam

Meath / Halpin Family
« on: Thursday 19 April 07 13:18 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone done any research on the Halpins in Meath? I am really struggling for that elusive breakthrough!

Patrick Halpin was born in 1842/3 in County Meath and moved to Lancashire around 1865 where he married Mary Nulty. She was also originally from County Meath and her father was James Nulty (deceased), a corn miller. Patrick's father was also called Patrick Halpin (deceased), a farmer.

Patrick Halpin (jnr) may have had a brother called Peter as his marriage certificate shows his father as Patrick too but he is shown as a lodger, not a brother, when he is living with Patrick on the 1881 census.

Finding Patrick's birth and parents in Meath is proving very difficult! Does anyone have any information or tips?

Thanks,
Pam

Hi Andy

Thanks very much for that information. I didn't realise there were still operational quarries in that area. I shall try and research this a little further.

I've ordered the certificate with that reference and unfortunately the marriage is to Victoria Aishman, not Eliza Amor, so I'm back to square one!

Any further help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Pam

Somerset / Quarry in or near Batcombe?
« on: Wednesday 28 February 07 09:15 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know of any quarries in or around Batcombe that were operational in the mid to late 1870s?

Samuel Vining was living at Honeycliff in Batcombe at this time and his occupation is shown as Quarryman and as Stone Cutter. He was previously an agricultural labourer.

I would be grateful for any information.

I've just looked on the 1871 census and found Elizabeth listed as Elizabeth A Vining. So if her middle name was Ann I can see how the clerk arrived at Eliza Amor from Elizabeth Ann Hoare!

Many thanks Valda.

Somerset Lookup Requests / East Pennard Marriage register - Vining

I am trying to find the marriage of Samuel Vining to Elizabeth Hoare (I think that is her surname). It should have taken place around 1860 as I have found them on the 1861 census in East Pennard and they are shown as married and aged 23 and 24.

I would be very grateful for any assistance with this.

Westmeath / Halpins in Westmeath
« on: Saturday 10 February 07 11:45 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find the parents of Patrick Halpin who I believe was born in Westmeath in about 1842. He also has a brother called John born approx. 1847 and possibly another brother called Peter born approx. 1849. Patrick came to Lancashire around 1866/67 and on his marriage certificate his father is shown as Patrick Halpin (deceased).

I have found a Patrick Halpin on the Griffiths Valuation for Westmeath in the parish of Clonarney.

Can anyone give me any help or advice as to how I can find Patrick's parents?

Many thanks,
Pam
