Australia / Re: Elizabeth AXAM - Birth in Victoria. Two registration numbers..??
« on: Tuesday 30 November 10 10:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I looked it up in the Victorian BDM's for you and it's the same record.
I can't tell you why but that sort of thing has happened a lot in the Victorian BDM's.  Possibly because the transcribers were slightly illiterate could be one reason, or misleading information on the record.
The No: 19 record just says place of birth INDE.
Perhaps it is the 19th Birth at Indented Head, but the 32625th record for the State of Victoria.  Trust me it's the same person, I am dealing with the Victorian BDM's all the time, send them an email and ask.
There is an on line contact page at this web address:

Thank you so very much Shane for that.  I just looked it up in my Ireland Road Atlas and they are very close arn't they?
Do you have easy access to that information? If you do, would it be possible to look the other children up to see if there is a maiden name for Anne for me please? If it's not possible then thank you for the information you have already found. I really do appreciate it.

Warm Regards,

Dublin / Eaton/Heaton of Dublin/Tallaght
« on: Wednesday 17 November 10 14:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
I am trying to get information on the family of my 2ggf's first wife's family.  Their name was Eaton although some documents I have say Heaton.
They were RC's Michael Eaton was born around 1800 -1805, from Dublin.  His wife was Ann, surname unknown also from Dublin,  born around 1805.   Their first five children according to the 1852 English Census of Leeds Yorkshire, were born at Tallaght.
Ellen 1827, Mary (my 2ggf first wife, who he married in Leeds in 1852.) 1829, Thomas 1831, Michael 1833 and William 1835,  the next child Margaret 1837 was born in Co. Kildare and the last child James was born in Dublin in 1842.  They are listed in the Leeds, Yorkshire, Eng. 1851 Census, but in the 1861 Census, Michael Snr. had died (1853) I have a copy of his death certificate, but I couldn't find anything on Ann his wife.  Most of Mary's sibling's were still living in Leeds.  The family were weavers, cloth spinners and Mill hands.

It got worse trying to find them in the 1871 Census.  I know that at some stage between 1851 and 1861 William went back to Ireland as his daughter is recorded on the 1861 English Census as being born in Ireland in 1859.  I am not sure if he escorted his mother back to Ireland after his father died in England, or went himself but he has come back to Leeds with a wife and daughter.
I would dearly like to know what Ann Eaton's maiden name was, as it does not state it on Michael Snr. death certificate.  I have searched RootsIreland for Michael and Ann's marriage but was unable to find anything.  It doesn't help when you are unfamiliar with Dublin and have not a clue as to where they lived.
I was wondering if anyone out there can help me.  I am presuming the Eaton family went across to Leeds during the Potato Famine in Ireland.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

Regards,

Perthshire / Re: John Drummond/ Jean Currie, from Falkirk to Australia
« on: Monday 15 November 10 15:59 GMT (UK)  »
John was the son of John Drummond and Isabella McDuff. He was born in 1791 in Crieff and married Jean Currie in 1822 in Falkirk. They had 8 children: John, b. 1823, Ireland ; William, b.1825, Falkirk; Peter, b. 1828 in England; Janet, b. 1830, Falkirk;  David Reid, b. 1834, Australia; James, b. 1835, Aus; Catherine, b. abt 1840, Australia; George McDuff, b. 1843, Aus, m. Margaret Murray. I descend from John’s brother, William. I would be interested to exchange any information from anyone who descends from this line.

Hi Jimmain,
I am in Australia, I am from the same Drummond line as you.   John Drummond b. 1791 was my 3rd great grandfather.
I have got back to Josiah Drummond, who married to Emilie Cearer/Crerar and then Ann Graeme, but I don't have information on Josiah's parents.  I am very interested to exchange information with you.  Not sure how to use this chat.
Am I allowed to give you and ask for your email addy?

Hi Jack,
Well I got out my map book of Ireland that I bought while I was over there last September and there is a Narin in County Donegal on the coast so I am going to check in that direction for a bit. Thank you for your help.

Laois (Queens) / Re: Narin Queens County
« on: Saturday 24 February 07 14:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Jack,
Thank you for the reply.  My great grandmothers name was Eliza Kelly, her parents were Michael Kelly and Elizabeth Fahey.  She married my great grandfather Thomas John Cleary from Paradise (Ballynagard) Co. Clare in Bradford Yorkshire, England in 1868. I have a copy of their marriage certificate.  Michael Kelly, her father was listed as already deceased, his trade had been a Bookkeeper.  She was listed as a Worstered Mill Hand. Her place of birth was Ireland.  My cousin says it was Narin, Queens County, but I can't find anything on Narin either.  She says she remembers being told that in childhood.
I was in Ireland from Australia last September, but didn't have this information then, I was checking out the Cleary side in County Clare, otherwise I would have checked out Laois while I was there,
Anything you can give me would be appreciated,
Warm regards,
Diane

Laois (Queens) / Narin Queens County
« on: Saturday 24 February 07 12:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am very new to this, I am trying to find out if there was a town called Narin back in the 1840's in Queens County.  My cousin has told me our great grandmother was born there, but I can't find anything on it.  If anyone can tell me if it did exist and where it was in Queens County, I would be very grateful.  I don't know if this is only a vague childhood memory of hers or there really was a place called Narin.
Thanking you
Diane
