The Common Room / Re: The Genealogist gets it right!

Agree with you CarolA3 too.

Never had a problem with FindMyPast before but their 1939 Database is absolutely shocking and after requesting (and receiving from me) extra information on one query they don't seem to have any intention of sorting things out.

Bought batch of 15 households, got 13 pages, the others were just duplicates of two of the earlier households with so many errors, but I still got charged even though I was technically opening the same page twice, via different name in the same household.

I will certainly think long and hard before attempting to purchase more.

Will have to look into the Genealogist.

Hi jillruss,

I've been finding much as you.

Mistranscriptions of clear writing as someone obviously thought they knew better.

Anyone looking for the Backlog family (I know, sounds unlikely, but true, as corroborated elsewhere), needs to look for Buckloy!

and Norah A Fisher, a bit unclear, but does not excuse changing Noah's clearly marked sex from M to F as well, leaving a household with 6 females, the first two married!

Better news, they have today confirmed that they will unredact my mother's record, but still no news on what happens about the record that they charged for twice.

It could be a good resource, but they could probably correct it more quickly, if they (even partially)refunded credits to those who reported errors.

good luck with your searches!

The Common Room / Re: 1939 - queries answered by FindMyPast?

thanks for the responses,

despite a reminder earlier in the week, they still haven't answered most of my queries. Just the one to say that the discount code can't be applied to sets of 15 households, just 5!

Eventually opened one more page to confirm that only one of the three girls whose surname they had changed had, in fact married the guy whose name they had all been changed to. Another had a different married name on the page, and the incorrect spelling of a first name of one of them was also a transcription error! all of which I was pretty sure of anyway but with so many errors, I needed confirmation that it was indeed the correct household.

The Common Room / 1939 - queries answered by FindMyPast?

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but has anyone had a real answer from the FindMyPast team to any of their queries.

They responded so far as to ask for more information on the household that I was charged twice for, which I sent them, but it's now becoming weeks and still no direct response as to why I got charged twice for the same household, on the same page, when I tried to reopen it.

They have not corrected this error.

Does anyone know if clicking the wrong name in the household, automatically burns up credits like this?

Hi Carole699
I am also experiencing delayed responses, eventually (several days) followed by a question to which they should have an answer already.

I feel that I am giving them more information than they are giving me, at a consideral cost.

I thought that I had done this but as the page references were changing by the day, while I was doing that, I had recorded the two families as different finds and when it was not obviously available under the second name, assumed that it was one that I hadn't yet opened/purchased, when I got my credits.

(was trying to check how many credits I would need and then do the purchases, but have decided that value for money is not good, so probably won't but any more credits)

A lot of mistranscriptions in the records that I have redeemed my credits for,
one accidentally purchased twice, two couples, the younger wife and her parents (different name) in same household (why is database not linked to show this?).

no extra discount on package of 15 credits, despite message saying this had been applied.

no way to identify redacted member of my Mum's family, as both she and her younger brother are not on visible list.

And now they are asking me to identify address of duplicated purchase and all names of that household despite the fact that I have to look them up in their data-base to do so.

I am unable to find anyone that I don't already have full information for.

I think I would advise waiting before paying for information, as if I finally get round to using up all my credits and notifying them of all mistakes, I suspect that I will have done as much work as they have on this database, so why is it me paying them?

Hi Carol,
that wasn't the problem. I went in through a different search (different family name) and only realised I had paid for the same page twice when I spotted it on the My Records list.

All the changes of file names and non-disclosing of addresses means that it's not possible to recognise that this is the same file that you are opening until after you look at it.

Warning. I don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere - too bogged-down in the changing references to notice, but I just accidentally repurchased a household record. Same household but listed under two different surnames!

Since you can no longer check address before selecting, this is very easy to do!

Also went for largest bundle as I knew I had a good few to look for, and suspect that the discount was not applied to that.

This could be a very expensive exercise!
