Family Bibles / Re: Rickard Family Cornwall
« on: Tuesday 29 March 16 11:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi Jane
I hope you see this, I have not been on Rootschat for ages so have only just seen your posts.
John White Rickard's son George was my Great Grandfather. I have quite a bit of information taking the family further back (though it is a bit disorganised at the moment) that I would be more than happy to share with you.
The tale of John b.1866 being killed by smugglers is interesting, he looks to have been in the Royal Navy and I will have a look at those records on Thursday. He died in 1907 aged 41, I might just have to get that certificate!
Who are you descended from? I guess it must be Elizabeth or Margaret.
Look forward to hearing from you.

The Common Room / Re: Can modern Parish records go online?
« on: Wednesday 07 July 10 21:18 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for your help. Hopefully my dad is keeping within the law making the copies as the main purpose is to keep copies in the church as they are needed there. Looks like they will need to be transcribed if they are to go on-line.

The Common Room / Can modern Parish records go online?
« on: Wednesday 07 July 10 19:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi
My Dad is taking some of the Baptism, Marriage and Burial records from his Parish church to the local records office tomorrow. The records go from the 1800 to present (Takes a long time to fill a book in a small villiage parish!).
He has photographed every page and would like to put the photos on-line for those who can't get to the records office once he has checked this is OK with the Church. I know that normally more recent records are not put on in-line, does anyone know if there are rules about this and what age of Parish records can be put on a website?

Thanks
SBW

Family History Beginners Board / Re: ALLEN

Hi
Just wondering if you were thinking of Rootsweb and their mailing lists for surnames http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/surname/a/
I don't think there are boards for individual surnames on here.

Thanks Hazel thats really helpfull.
Its useful to know about his education, not sure how he managed to go to Grammar school when his father was a woolen weaver. Lovely to know that he was a poet!
Thanks

Wales / translation help please

Hi
I have borrowed  "Hanes Plwyfi Llangeler a Phenboyr" by Daniel E Jones. My GG Grandfather John Evans and his father David Evans are mentioned in it, there does not seem to be an English translation so please can SKS translate this paragraph-

John Evans, gweinidog Eastcombe, mad David Evans, Ddolgeryg, addysgwyd yn Nghapel Bach ac Ysgol Ramadegol Emlyn. Wedi myned drwy y cwrs arferol yn Ngholeg Hwlffordd, ordeiniwyd yn Nglynnedd. Symudodd oddiyno i gymeryd gofal eglwys Seisnig Pontypool, yna i Alexandra Road, Casnewydd, ac yn olaf i eglwys Eastcombe yn Swydd Gaerloew. Mae Mr. Evans yn bregethwr melus ac yn fardd rhagorol.

Thanks in advance
SBW

Gloucestershire / Re: HART family in Longhope - any 18thC marriages

If you want to find out more about Longhope, the villiage has its own website-
http://www.longhopevillage.co.uk/
If you look at the family history section it includes some census info and graveyard inscriptions.

Monmouthshire / Re: Newspaper archives.

I can access Western mail archives via the monmouthshire libraries website but you need to have a library card. It links to a british library site, but having gone to their site directly I cant see how you can access them that way.
Let me know if I can do a look up for you.
