A few years ago I prepared articles about the Catholic Churches in Dolgellau & Barmouth for the Welsh Wikipedia, both of these churches were established by congregations which first met, because of a paucity of numbers, in private houses. For religious meetings to be authorised in these private houses they would also need to be licenced as places of public worship. The probability is that Bernard Hughes' house would have been licenced as a place of worship where marriages could be performed, as well as being Mr Hughes' home.

Does anybody have a copy of the Memorial inscriptions for St Hywyn's Church Aberdaron? I am looking for the details on the Memorial to Ann(e) Griffith(s), Bryn Canned, who died on 25 October 1821 aged 87. Ann Griffith was a practitioner of folk medicine who was noted for her use of foxgloves (digitalis) decades before the scientific community confirmed its value in treating heart health. I can't find any details about her personal life, parents, husband, children etc other than a comment in her entry on the Oxford Dictionary of National biography "(she) had been predeceased by at least one child, a daughter. https://doi.org/10.1093/ref:odnb/70541 I would be interested to know if this daughter is mentioned on Ann's MI and if any other family members are mentioned; also if there are any other's from Bryn Canned / Bryn Caniaid /Bryn Cynaid /Bryncaniad buried in the cemetery who might be potential relations.

Llanfair-is-gaer, is basically the parish based at what is now called Y Felinheli, formally known as Port Dinorwic. Llanddeiniolen is a neighbouring parish slightly to the north of it. Large new industrial towns such as Bethesda, didn't respect traditional parish boundaries that were formed in the Middle Ages and didn't respect the changes of the Industrial Revolution. I suspect that she died in Bethesda, which traversed both parishes, but there was uncertainty about the actual parish that "that" part of Bethesda was in.

This is the website for applications of The Northern Ireland Stillbirth Registry. England and Wales applications can be obtained from https://www.gov.uk/general-register-office. Other than the parent's names (which you need to apply for a certificate) the certificate's only family history value is the date of stillbirth and after 1960 the cause of the stillbirth. My parents named my stillborn brother, born in 1965, Huw but weren't allowed to record the name on his stillborn certificate. They weren't allowed to bury him either, he was disposed of as "clinical waste", something that still haunts and hurts my parents 50+ years later.

In this instance what is changed by clicking the language option is just the interface of the site. The newspaper articles are still displayed in the language in which they were published.

I won't translate the whole article, because most of it is a rant about the good old days when Sunday schools could afford trips! The article reports a Sunday school "staycation" by Dolwyddelan Anglican Church where a festival was held in Dolwyddelan and "Most of the sweets shared at the end of the event were provided by Mrs Kerridge, Gwydr Arms".
