Suffolk / Re: Samuel HURREN of Worlingworth
« on: Monday 25 June 07 22:00 BST (UK)  »
Just by way of an update I have discovered the following.

Samual and Phoebe (maiden name Gudgeon) are indeed the parents of Samuel born 1829.

Samuel born 1806 was the child of Ralph and Martha (maiden name Hambling) – no marriage certificate can be found.

Samuel and Phoebe married 29.12.1825.  Samuel was born 14-6-1829.

I have been unable to trace Ralph born 1775-85 who was married 1800ish

The above research was done by a relative in Lowestoft Records Office.

Just by way of an update.

It would appear that Cleopatra was a witness at Mary Ann from Tannington wedding to Samuel Mattock in Redlingfield in 1872.  Mary Ann’s age is stated as being 21.

Her father is listed as being Samuel Hurren who was born around 1806.  There is obviously a link with my Hurren’s and the ones at Tannington which is only about a mile away.

It still appears that Samuel b.1830 appears from no where unless I take a leap of faith and say that Samuel age 11 of Tannington is my GGrandfather, again I can find no proof of this on the internet so a trip to Suffolk parish records is on the horizon!

Many thanks to you all.  This has filled in a few gaps, I am going to draw the family tree to make more sense of all the lines.  I think I will be taking a trip to Suffolk to check the church records.

I am trying to establish a link if a Jabez Hurren (b 1809)  from the area is a relative, I will let you know if this is the case! :)

Also the name Hurren seems to be Irish, though I cannot be certain of this.  It appears that to meet an Irish Hurren you have to travel to Boston, USA!!!  ;)

Samuel Hurren – Worlingworth, Suffolk (later of London)

I am trying to piece together some of my family history, the details below are what I know about the family.

Samuel Hurren was born in 1865, he either lived or worked in the Worlingworth area and I understand worked with horses as a saddler or harness maker he later went to London and worked as a groom (there is story of him in London taking a whip to the coalman for mistreating a horse!)

He married Edith? Form Godstone in Surrey.

Samuel died on 9th May 1941; Edith died 12 February 1940 aged 69.

They had the following Children in London:

Jessie Dora – died 22nd February 1940 aged 27

Violet

Grace

Alice

Alfred

Albert Samuel – married Nancy Hall on 2nd June 1941 (these are my grandparents).

There was also another brother.
