I would be interested in any information relating to the furniture company, White & Newton of Portsmouth Ltd (no longer trading). They were in business from approx 1922-1980. Any memories of their early products or later products (1950-1980). They seem to have been a well known company employing around 300 staff yet there is little documented history. I would be grateful for any information. Thank you.

Hello David,
Back in 2008 when I posted this topic I thought it quite likely that John and Martha Newell were my gggg grandparents - I still have not 'proved' this but believe it to be so. For certain my gggg grandfather was John Newell born approx 1781. He had a son, William, born somewhere between 1804-1807, William had a son John 1834, John had a son George 1857, George had a son Charlie, Charlie's son is my father.
I know that John Newell married Martha Barret (1784)(various spellings) 10/3/1804 at West Wycombe. They had a number of children all at West Wycombe:
William 1804
George 1806,
James 1808
Elizabeth 1812
Ann 1814
Mary 1816
Sarah and Thomas 1819 (is this your Thomas?)
Edmund 1821
Alfred 1824

I have looked at the IGI for the Ellen Maria Newell suggested but it seems she died aged two years, so I am looking again. I assume that the Ellen Newell I am looking for has been incorrectly indexed (?)

I have looked at the IGI for Ellen Maria Newell as suggested but it seems she died aged two years so I'm looking again. I can only assume that the Ellen Newell I am looking for has been indexed incorrectly. Any ideas would be most welcome!

I have posted this on Buckinghamshire and Oxford as I'm not sure which is correct.
I am looking for death or burial information regarding my ggggrandmother Ellen Newell.
In 1841 she was living with her husband William, and sons at Cadmore End, Lewknor Uphill.
1n 1844 she gave birth to a son.
In 1851 William is described as a widower. He remarries in 1857, his marriage certificate confirms that he was a widower.
I do not have access to the full GRO indexes and cannot find Ellen on Free BMD. Any help that can be given is much appreciated.
