Many thanks Richard, I'm pretty sure this is the right family. I know they had a daughter Alice so that fits. I must have been mistaken about his wife :-)
Thanks for your help

Thanks to all including jorose and chempat. Arthur Kennel (1864) senior died 1897 and his wife Martha married Abel Cook so the 1901 census shows Arthur Kennel jnr as step son. It is likely that Polly Rootham was made pregnant by Arthur Kennel (1889) early in 1911. He may even have left for Canada before the 1911 UK census leaving Polly to have his illegitimate child at Martha Batty's (her sister) house in Bradford. She then seems to have returned to the Fens with Arthur Kennell Rootham. They were together in 1939. He then married Florence Osborne in 1942 and they had 4 children. Polly Rootham never married. Quite a sad story. Thanks again and HAPPY CHRISTMAS!  :D

Thanks Pauline J , Chempat and Millmoor. I agree Polly Rootham 1889 now looks very likely to be the mother of the illegitimate Arthur Kennel born 8 Nov 1911. In the 1911 census she was still with her parents at Yaxley Fen aged 21, helping her father as a Dairy Worker. Soon after the census she may have left to stay with her older sister Martha (Rootham) Batty in Bradford where Arthur Kennel was born. I suspect the father must be a Kennel from the Yaxley area. Yaxley Fen, Ramsey St Mary and Holme are all close and likely places for a Kennel father to be living in 1911. The 1962  Probate is a great find. I'll follow up the marriage of Arthur K to Florence Osborne and check for children too. THANKS AGAIN ALL!

In the 1939 Register (Thorney RD)... Kennel A Rootham 1911 is with George Rootham 1857, Martha 1863, Polly 1889 and Percy 1902. These Roothams were from Holme Hunts, but an Arthur Kennell Rootham was born in 1911 at Bradford. Another Rootham girl, Martha 1884 married Amos Batty from Bradford and had children in Bradford by 1904. Any information about Arthur Kennell Rootham and his parents would be very welcome. Thanks and a Merry Christmas in advance! (I have only recently started using the 1939 Register and find it an excellent aid for more recent searches but don't have full access)  :)

A bit more on Ann Sykes: By 1851 census  Thomas has died and Ann has married Philip Papworth at Witcham.
John Sykes, son of T & A is present as son in law aged 13 born Witcham. Ann is born Willingham aged 54. George 23 is with Adam Barker and Elizabeth Hitch. Henry is a lodger in Witcham.
Now Ann Catherine Cann could be 16 Jan 1797 Willingham mother Rebecca Cann. No father but..
When Ann married Philip Papworth 10 July 1849 she is a Widow born Willingham and father stated as Anthony CATTON. Witnesses Thomas Poole and Elizabeth Hitch.
Willingham is 9 miles from Witcham.
Thomas Sykes died at Witcham 25 Jan 1846 aged 51. So born c. 1795.

Hi Mark I think Thomas Sykes 29 Sep 1790 Fa Robert Mo Rebecca Elsworth
married Ann Cann 27 Feb 1816....Ann of Willingham
Anthony son of Thomas and Elizabeth 23 Aug 1818
Lucy dau  Thomas and Elizabeth 30 Sep 1821 .
Thomas son Thomas and Elizabeth 13 Jun 1824
James son Thomas and ANN 25 Jun 1827
George T & A 1829
William T & A 1831
Henry T & A 1834
John T & A 1836
The 1841 shows them all with T & A ( Anthony now with the Slacks in Soham)
So Ann Cann is also Elizabeth or (Thomas married Ann Cann who died and Thomas married Elizabeth who died and he married another Ann!)
