No the Salvation Army connection is not a surprise - My father Ivan was the family rebel and refused to have anything to do with his parents way of life.   We grew up not knowing much about his family only that they were involved in the Salvation Army - which is ironic as William David's family were hotel owners and landlords in Adelaide.

Thanks for the Web sites, Sue.

Thanks to all for your assistance.

Regards Lyn

Hi

Amelia had 11 children in total 2 males and 9 females,  she survived 8 ie they passed away before her death, there were only 3 of her children living when she died.

She may have had twins and or triplets as they run in the family.

Thank you for the marriage registrations for Ruth and Bessie, Kris.

Thanks for the lead on Thomas, Jenn

I will follow them through.

regards lyn

Thank you for the welcome and posting my request.

On Amelia Stokes Death Certificate the information is -

Date of Death 22nd September, 1921
Sex F
Age 90 years
Profession  Old Age Pensioner widow of Charles Warburton
Usual residence - Adelaide Terrace, Magill

Birthplace England (town not known)
Length of Residence in Commonwealth - 81 years
Age at marriage  20
Number of issue living M 2   F 9
Number of issue deceased M1 F7
Cause of Death   Senile decay

Length of residence in commonwealth I assume means time in Aust. This means she arrived in Aust 1840 aged 9 yrs was married in Aust 11 years later in 1851 aged 20.  Has anyone found any documented proof of any of this?

Amelia had 11 children - did all survive to adulthood - highly unlikely
she obviously survived 8 of the 11.  My grandmother was one, who were the rest and where were they born?   5 females have been listed in past posts - thank you :-* does anyone know anything about them?

Charles's Death Cert.
Death Date 3 Oct 1892
age 66 yrs
profession - Shoemaker
Usual residence Magill
Certificate is signed by Amelia Warburton - Wife.

This would mean he was born in 1825 - 6.  Where?  and when did he come to Aust.

I haven't any information on siblings, Kathleen and William seemed to go to Western Australia alone although one of William's sisters followed later.
I have a feeling there was a serious split in one of the families be it the Warburtons or the Lanes.  As far as the family knows there was very little if any communication with the South Australian families.

We were shocked to see there were 3 surviving children after Amelia's death we were of the opinion Kathleen was an only child of an elderly couple.

If anyone has any leads could you please share?

As a post note re Egerton Warburton our family always believed the Warburtons were from Ireland and England were part of the Lee-Warburton group.  There was no foundation for this belief.
