Somerset / Re: Why did he die here?

Hi Giggsy, Yes James was married to Isabella Boon from Beer Crocombe.

I have looked at the 1901 census and can find George T Boon but although he was born Hedging he appears to be living in Lyng. I don't know if this is close to Hedging or not.

I still cannot find a close connection to Isabella other than there are a lot of Boons in Somerset, so will be part of the family somehow. And, I still don't know whether James was buried in Somerset or Bristol.

In 1881 and 189191 James was living in Goodhind St, Bristol,  with wife Isabella and children. Amelia was always with him. In 1901, Census must have been just before his death, he was living "On own means" with Amelia. Also in same house Charles Jennings and family.

I can't really imagine he was in Somerset for work. Possible though

Somerset / Why did he die here?

I have a James White, born 1821 in Wotton under Edge, Glos and lived in Bristol afterwards, who died 5 July 1901 according to Probate records, in Hedging, North Petherton. I am wondering why he died in Somerset? Was there a hospital in Hedging in 1901 or something like that? His deceased wife's family came from Somerset, maybe he was just visiting? I don't know where he was buried, Somerset or Bristol.

What is the closest church to Hedging please?

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Edward James MARTIN marriage

Thank  you so much Tony and Jen. It takes a fresh brain to see the obvious, obviously!!!  I wonder why this paid kept changing their names. Edward James - def James on my grandmother's marriage cert and Eleanor obviously prefered Helena on the censuses. Thanks again

Oh gosh, you must be right.  The only thing is, on Norah's Marriage Certificate her father is down as Edward James, labourer. This would certainly make things easier. I had seen Edward Joseph but disregarded him because of the certificate.

Hi, I hoipe I am posting on the right board as it may be that the marriage took place in Essex, just not sure. I would like to find the marriage of Edward James Martin born C 1856/9, so that I could get the cert and travel back further.

My mother was born at 19 Young St, West Ham and that is how I know I have the right person. I have:

1891 - Edward MARTIN,1858, Shoreditch. Wife Helena 1869, Port Natal, South Africa. Children Sarah 2 and Edward 4 months. Both born Custom House. Living Alwick Rd.

1901 - Edward J MARTIN, 1859, Shoreditch. Wife Eleanor E, 1869 Africa. Children Sarah G, Edward F, Eleanor E, Susannah A, Charlotte C and Jane K. All born Custom House. Living 19 Young Street.

1911 - Edward MARTIN, 1856, Hoxton. Wife  Hellena (again) 1869 Port Natal, Africa. Children Eleanor, Susannah, Charlotte, Jane, William, Norah (my grandmother) and Thomas, all born West Ham. Again living 19 Young Street.

There are a few possible Edwards in the 1881 census but none I can count on. One being a Looking Glass fitter (Carver & Gilder) and another as a goldsmith being the best for where born and date but I have very great doubts for either of these as Edward spent his life from 1891 as a dock labourer or similar.

I would love to be able to trace this couple further back.

Hi again,

William married Eleanor Chalk in Swansea, 4th qtr, 1853. Not sure about which Parish. Had 2 children Ellen b 1854 and Wil.liam b 1857. Eleanor died 1862.

He married Jane Butler in 1863. He wasn't wasting much time there.

Thank you Morgan for the link to Parish Chest. I ordered Llangennith and Llanmadoc and they arrived this morning. I have found quite a few bits and pieces and also tracked down both of William's two marriages and both of his father Thomas's. It seems that I was right in that all of Mary Hoskin's children seemed to have died very early and it look like Mary herself might have died in childbirth in 1821

Still cannot find anything in relation to William's first two, Ellen and William. Very elusive.

I thought that it was Llangennech in the first place but when Llangennith started appearing then I had another look and it could just be Llangennith, not so very far away.
