Only because you have mentioned South Africa as a possible - this might be of interest.

Maybe you are exploring the wrong DNA line  :-\   Feel sure someone would be able to answer that one.

Will post this anyway.

Not into DNA myself but the strong link you quote (WJB) was the grandson of Raymond Bruce who was born 4 July 1912 (can't find a UK birth for him)
Raymond married in Croydon in 1937 to Elsie Walker, both born 1912.

Raymond Bruce appears on a UK incoming passenger list 22 October 1949 departing Durban South Africa to Southampton on the Durban Castle - his address given was 56 Montacute Rd. Addington. Croydon.

Raymond's occupation was carpenter.

Where does the Rev William Powell and son come into this ?

Could the connection not be down the Bruce line ?

Hi Gordon,

RootsChat has a no living person rule so all the current names you have listed would need to be removed as they are hopefully still living.

Have made a note of them and will have a look to see what we can find out.

You do need to go through all the Wayland children and the married Wayland children from the sister Ada's marriage to William. To double check none may have been born illegitimately and taken to the USA to save any family embarrassment.

Delighted the research checked out ok.

Something strange about Ivy Isabel, she might not have been a Caldwell at all  :-\
