Hi,

I'm trying to trace the families of Don Winer from Ontario (born c1920) and Jeff Marples from British Columbia. They were stationed with my uncle in India during the Second World War. My uncle was with the Air Forces in India and went trekking in the Himalayas with Cpl Don Winer and Cpl Jeff Marples in November 1944.

It would be good to get in touch as I have a photo of Don and Jeff.

All good - but why are you researching him? I can confirm Uncle Peter never did marry. Would be very interested to know why my father is of interest to you. Thanks, Amanda Stephenson

Hi Amanda,

I was a pupil at the English School of Paris and you uncle, Peter, taught me English and History. The school (now the British School of Paris) are trying to make contact with relatives of Peter. Hopefully we can make contact I will explain more.

Thanks

A big thank you @QueenoftheWest

I’ve been able to link George Deakin/Dakin (1771-1852) and his interesting musical family to my own!

Thanks again.

Thank you again. I seem to be making progress!

I came across this which I found interesting ….. 🙂

An interesting article on the George Deakin who died in 1852:

Mary Ann Deakin was born in Taddington to a George & Bridget Deakin in 1790. Maybe these are George Jr.'s parents?

Thank you. I’ve managed to research coming forwards and have  quite a lot of info about the Deakin family from George & Rachael onwards which I’ve published on the web.

There were quite a few Dakins in Taddington and I was finding it difficult to sort them out. I’ll pursue the George Dakin find.

Thanks 😊

It looks like this is their first child:

Robert, son of George & Rachael Dakin of King Street, father's occupation: spinner (which aligns with George's occupation on his marriage record). Robert was baptised in Stockport, Cheshire in 1816.

Then they had:
Alice (1819), baptised in Stockport, family listed as living in Heaton Norris.
John (1821), baptised in Heaton Norris.
Harriot (1824) in Halifax, Yorkshire, family listed as living in Skircoat.
Hannah (1828), baptised in a Wesleyan Methodist chapel, family listed as living in Skircoat.
Bridget (1831), also baptised in a Wesleyan Methodist chapel, but the family is now back in Heaton Norris.
Samuel (1834), this time George is described as 'dresser' [cotton dresser].

Wonder if any of these names may be clues?

I'm not researching this family, but I thought I would have a look for you.

You may already know this, but the George Deakin who died in Buxton in 1863 had a gravestone, which states that he was the son of George Deakin (1771-1852):

Thank you! I didn’t know about the gravestones photos website!
