With respect Althea, point NOT missed and as I said previously  numbers irrelevant and dessemination of  available info critical , hence the posting . One has  to go beyond one's  back yard to seek out the past .As a point on information :In 2006, the number of people born in Scotland was recorded as 29,016 [1], making it the eighth most common place of birth. In 1956, the figure was 46,401, making Scotland the second most common place of birth.

However, these figures only include people born in Scotland, not those New Zealanders who claim a Scottish identity through their parents, grandparents, or even further back. In addition, many New Zealanders come from mixed origins, with Scottish New Zealanders co-identifying as Māori or another ethnic group.

In 2006, 15,039 self-identified as Scottish.
That is fairly apposite - awareness of information to improve and extend  research !

Hi Althea I aint  a number  cruncher but am  aware of ther importance  of making people  aware of information that may assist in their  research . Was some  perplexed  why no NZ " hits  " shown on stats  showing locus of viewers . Pleased to say 15 responses from the land  of the long white cloud in last 24 hours which is pleasing . There are blogs and there are blogs . Information is to be desseminated . Have  a particular interest in NZ as  my ancestor  moved  to Little Hutt and  introduced tomatoes to the country Another  was  was harbour master at Lyttleton I have  two second  cousins there so not  exactly a cold call ! Take care

« on: Wednesday 14 December 11 18:51 GMT (UK)  »
Thought I would point out that there is a quite magnificent genealogical search engine luirking out there called Mocavo . Been around  since  2010 but  improving incredibly . It uses an algorithm that provides ancestry-centric results that may not show up in a Google search. The address is
http://www.mocavo.com/

Perthshire / Re: Michael Ochiltree---Dean of Dunblane ca1400

One of the most famous incumbents of Muthill before the period of the reformation was Michael Ochiltree . He was Dean of Dunblane and priest at Muthill in the year 1425 and the Church of Muthill was partly rebuilt for him. He was also the builder of what is still known as the Bishop’s Bridge over the Machany near Muthill as also of another bridge , now disused , but still partly existing , over the Knaick at Ardoch . He was appointed Bishop of Dunblane before the year 1439 and was still Bishop in 1447.
