Cheshire Lookup Requests / William Ormson - Altrincham
« on: Wednesday 14 October 20 15:33 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone find me William Ormson in 1891 census? In 1881 he is with parents at Sinderland and is joiner aged 24. He marries 19 March 1894 at St Lukes, Weaste (Salford) to Jane Taylor of Altrincham. His address is just given as Weaste. Have searched Lancashire and Cheshire 1891 with no success, also rest of census. By 1901 he is back in Altrincham area where he lives until death in 1936.
Note he is not the William Ormson of Norbury/Hazel Grove.

There is a book "Altrincham Gardeners' Society - a hundred years of professional gardeners" by Hazel Pryor and John Hitchens (2003) which "looks at the paid gardeners who lived and worked around the town". "Thoroughly indexed.... this is the story of the employers and patrons, societies and above all the individual gardeners in North Cheshire and a way of life which has almost disappeared".
If you supply a name, I could see if they are mentioned.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Marriage Dead End

I had a similar case which I put up on Lancs look-up requests. Several people followed it up and only conclusion was there was no marriage - they just moved in together and she took his name on censuses etc - so that might be the answer for you too - you have the years when they could have married but no sign of a marriage. Mine put 20 years married on 1911 census but definitely no sign of a marriage anywhere.

I have one where someone is listed in one household as a boarder but is then also listed as head of household with rest of family in family home. Assume wife put him down even though he wasn't there on census night.

Haven't looked for him before
but he is with parents as single in 1881 aged 19
no sign of a wedding for him 1881-1891
Children all Hull on freebmd and baptisms of Herbert Henry and Bertha are on ancestry showing parents John and Charlotte Amy Hull.

1891 - but presume they've just taken the 20 years married on the 1911 census to get that.

Can anyone find me marriage of Charlotte Amy Foden to John Joseph Hull?. Just seen it on an Ancestry tree but not sure if they married.
1881 she is in Accrington with her parents. She is born Huddersfield.
Couldn't find her after that but now on looking at surname Hull.
In 1891 she is in Blackpool as Charlotte A Hull 18, wife of John Hull 29.
In 1901 She is in Blackpool as Amy Hull 28 wife of John Hull 39.
In 1911 she is in Weeton as Charlotte Amy Hull 38 wife of John Joseph Hull 48. Says married 20 years.
In 1939 register she is in Plymouth born 14 Nov 1871 with daughter.
