Northamptonshire / Totally surprised!
« on: Thursday 23 September 10 13:38 BST (UK)  »
I have been looking at the Northamptonshire Wills and have come across various wills for the BULL family of Weedon Pinckney, Northamptonshire (the Bull family are my dad's side whilst the Alibone family are my mum's side). In the will for Mrs Elizabeth Bull (probate October 1566) it states that she has made a bequeath to her son-in-law, Richard Alibone as well as Thomas Alibone (I am presuming that he is her grandson). I am wondering if there is a connection between 'my' Bull/Alibones and the Bull/Alibones in 1566 as Alibone is not a very common name.

If anybody could help/point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Thank you.

Northamptonshire / Emma & Sidney Alibone
« on: Tuesday 09 September 08 18:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi.

I was wondering if anyone could help with a branch of my family I am researching, please.

I have just found out that my 2xg uncle, Fred Alibone married Emma Summerley in Brixworth during the 1st quarter of 1910. They had a son, Sidney L, who was born during the 3rd quarter of 1914.

However, both Emma and Sidney died during the 3rd quarter of 1915 (Sidney was aged 1).

I will be getting their birth and death certificates (along with Emma and Fred's marriage certificate) but I am far too impatient to wait to see what they say!

I have tried to look on various websites to see if anything happened in Brixworth/Northampton/surrounding areas during the 3rd quarter of 1915 to see if it tied in but to no avail - I've even had a quick look on the Times online site but could not see anything.

So if anybody has got any other ideas of where I could look it would be appreciated, or do I have to curb my impatience and wait for the certificates?

Any help will be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Sue.

A GR member contacted me a few months ago and I replied that we did in fact have a match (cousins by marriage). I have not heard anything from them since. Which is a shame as it is on my late Dad's side of the family who we have not seen/spoken to for many years.

Occupation Interests / Re: Ostler

Hi Anne and Stan.

Thank you for your replies. A quite few of my ancestors worked as grooms at Chapel Brampton but this one is down as living in St Giles, Northampton which threw me a bit - probably because I was thinking it was as built up then as it is now!

Thanks again.

Hi All - silly question time (this is my first post though!) would an 'Astler' be the same as an 'Ostler'? Or if not, does anybody know what the occupation would have been? The reason I ask is because this is shown as the occupation for an ancestor on the 1871 census and when I saw this thread I though I would ask the question.

Many thanks.

Sue
