London and Middlesex / Re: Isaac William Mallindine, East End boy?
« on: Tuesday 26 February 19 05:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hello bugbear,

I have done a lot of research on Isaac William and his two wives, Elizabeth Moore and Sarah Susanna Peploe. I've documented most of it on my Mallandain website - Isaac's page is complete but Susanna's is not quite finished (I published the draft for you to review). You can find the pages here:

http://www.mallandain.com/isaac.moore.htm
http://www.mallandain.com/rf.peploe.htm

Essentially, I think Sarah was born a Peploe, had a relationship with Amos Moore (brother of Isaac's first wife) and had seven children before taking up with Isaac. I have no idea where the Brown name came from.

I recently ordered the death certificates of Isaac's first wife and Susanna Peploe. Unfortunately, it confirms that Elizabeth Moore died three years after Isaac married Susanna. I have their marriage entry at Christ Church in Southwark on 25 Mar 1895.

I have pieced together as much as I could and have taken a few leaps here and there so my research is not perfect but perhaps we can compare and come up with something as close to the truth as we are likely to find with this lot. Isaac's parentage is just as mysterious but my theory is that his father was Isaac Mallandaine, his mother's cousin. I am happy to share any records I have so if you are interested in anything referenced on the site pages, you can find my email on the Contact page of my website.

I'll go through the post in more detail as I see some rootschatters have found some records I don't have.

Regards,
Lynwen

Occupation Interests / Re: Help with Merchant Navy Apprentice Indenture record

Thanks Westoe.  I have a sub to FindMyPast and I've had luck with their newspaper archive in the past, even found another Master Mariner in the family who appeared at a court of inquiry after his ship ran aground en route to Aden.

This Edward is a complete mystery though but hey, at least now I know he is out there somewhere.

Thank you so much for your posts, Westoe & Seaweed, the info you shared is very helpful! I will try and find him in the available crew lists.

If a merchant seaman died on duty, would his death have to be registered in the UK? He doesn't appear in any UK marriage or census records and I haven't found him in the Overseas marriages or deaths register either. So I wonder if the lack of records might point to him jumping ship in a foreign port - I am assuming if a seaman did this, it would be recorded in the log book?

Occupation Interests / Help with Merchant Navy Apprentice Indenture record
« on: Thursday 15 June 17 00:13 BST (UK)  »
I recently found a record on Anc in the UK, Apprentices Indentured in Merchant Navy, 1824-1910 (from the National Archives BT 150/1-53) and was hoping for some advice.

I've attached a snippet and my fellow is Edward Peter Mallandain. The Indenture Expires value is crossed out in all of the 20 odd records (except one where it is noted the indenture was cancelled). Can I assume this means he completed the apprenticeship? I haven't been able to find him in any other records on Anc or FindMyPast after this date - any suggestions on how to find more on his career in the Merchant Navy? Is it possible to search by ship name for more information?

Any idea what the initial in the Remarks column mean? Looks like M.L or M.S.

I assumed Edward died due to the lack of records so I was happy to find this but also confused as I know nothing about the Merchant Navy.

Many thanks,
Lynwen

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Weybread lookups

Thank you both for the additional posts.

The Fulchers in Yaxley are all the same family.  Charlotte was living with her daughter, Jane Whitmore, when she died.  The birth for Charlotte is a possibility but I wish I could find the marriage to confirm it.  I have managed to trace most of the children of Thomas and Charlotte but not much luck going back any further.

Thanks,
Lynwen

Hello Sean,

Thanks for taking the time to do the look up, especially with so little information from my end!

Luckily Charlotte appears in both the 1851 and 1861 census returns and in both instances, her place of birth is listed as Eye, Suffolk.

I realize it is a long shot but I got lucky last time so I couldn't help but try my luck a second time.   ;D

Thanks,
Lynwen

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Marriage/Death Look-Up Please

This is the link to the search engine for BMDs in British Columbia:

http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-3328C7/gbsearch/Births,Marriages,Deaths

But I didn't get any hits on BMDs or the search of all records so it doesn't look like he died in BC.  I think that first link was a general search to the Vital Events page and the result I got was a genealogy pdf.......I think the "hit" was for Henderson as in Henderson's Directories and nothing to do with your fellow.

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Weybread lookups
« on: Tuesday 20 April 10 18:22 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a marriage between Thomas Fulcher and Charlotte (surname unknown) in Weybread c. 1800.  Their first known child was baptised in Weybread in 1802.

I am also looking for Thomas' baptismal record to identify his parents.  According to his burial record, he was born abt 1781 but I am not sure if he was born in Weybread or somewhere nearby.

Thanks,
Lynwen

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage lookup - possibly Norwich

Fantastic!  Thank you Annette.  I really thought I was looking for a needle in a haystack with this one!

I've never found my main branches on FreeReg so I have to admit I don't regularly check it but I will have to add it to my favourites now.

Thanks again for the super fast reply.  I can start my work day with a smile now. ;D
