Hi Declan2001,
If your John Clarke was the son of Mary Clarke who later married John Orpe then yes, you will be related to my husband as Mary Clarke is his 2x great aunt. I must admit I haven't looked at the Orpe or Clarke family for a while. I can confirm that John Clarke/ Orpe named his father as Thomas Clarke on his marriage certificate but I just wonder if just plucked a name out of the hat as he was illegitimate? His mother Mary Clarke was born in Weston Underwood, Derbyshire and baptised in Mugginton, Derbyshire on 10 May 1820. She was the daughter of John Clarke and Esther Bratby. My husband's 2x g grandmother is Mary Clarke's eldest sister Elizabeth born 1818 who moved to Birmingham and married Josiah Cutler. What is noticeable about John Clarke/ Orpe is that he took the Orpe surname and only reverted back to Clarke after his mother's death in 1865.

I'm now ruling out Joseph Roadknight if Linslade, Buckinghamshire being the one from Southam, I've found a will in the 1840's of a William Roadknight of Linslade who names his son Joseph in the will. My Joseph was the s/o Thomas. Back to the drawing board.....

Thanks for your help ShaunJ,
Judy

Yes, it is the same Joseph. I'm wondering however if he is "my" Joseph born 1807 in Southam, Warwickshire. I know he gave his place of birth as Linslade on the 1851 and 1861 census but on the 1841 he was born "out of county".  I think what I need to check now is whether there was a Joseph baptised around 1807 in Linslade.

Thanks,

Judy

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Roadnight marriage in Leighton Buzzard in 1829
« on: Monday 10 June 19 17:19 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for the details of the marriage entry of Joseph ROADNIGHT who married Sarah RICHARDSON on 5th November 1829 in Leighton Buzzard. I can only find the marriage on Familysearch, I would like to know whether the marriage entry states where Joseph Roadknight was from. I have an inkling he was from Warwickshire but as yet can't find any proof.

Many thanks,
Judy

The COL number is the order number given to a certificate application from the GRO, I would think your person has ordered the certificate.

Roscommon / Re: Michael Coyne and Rose McGovern and family 1825 - 1850

Hi Anna,
Sorry for the late reply, I thought I'd already answered (but obviously hadn't). Have we been in touch before as I'm sure I've emailed one of Barbara's children before? My late mother in law (Nellie Evans nee Coyne) spoke fondly of Barbara and her brother Stan. Nellie passed away in February aged 90, her sister Jean passed away last year aged 91.
Where does your Mom say the Coyne's come from in Ireland? Nellie and her brother Horace thought Cork but Jean just remembered "land of the bogs" (Roscommon?). Michael (1842) and brother Peter both put Roscommon on the 1911 census. Do you have a marriage for their brother John Coyne as no one seems able to find a marriage for him to Elizabeth McGuire/ Maguire?

Hi Anna,
We have the same Michael Coyne and Ellen Tracey, they are my husband's Gg Grandparents.  As you know Michael's parents were Michael Coyne born c1808 (Roscommon?) and Rosa McGovern born c1811 - I'm completely stuck with these two as I can't find a marriage or their births. I can see from the Walsall censuses and Walsall catholic records who their children were but I can't find their births in Ireland. Michael (who married Ellen Tracey) and his brother Peter gave their place of birth as Roscommon. My line is Michael (1842) - Cornelius (1875) - Bernard Charles (1896).

I know Ellen Tracey's father Cornelius was born somewhere on 4 Apr 1799 (Gibraltar, Last Port of Call or Ireland depending on which census) and his wife was Susanna Ansell (I'm ok with the Ansell line as I'm back to mid 1700's).

If you have anything further back on the Coyne/ McGovern/ Tracey I would be delighted to know.

Lancashire / Re: Help needed on Ellen Coupe/ Cope possibly born Balderstone

Hi Mark,
My husband's grandmother is Ellen Elizabeth, Eveline's slightly older sister. My late mother in law spoke about Aunt Eveline (it was such a big family that she couldn't remember all her aunts and uncles). I've been doing family history for years and you're the first Wilcox cousin I've come into contact with! I'll private message you later so we can compare notes, at the moment I can't open my family history programme but as soon as I can I'll let you know what I have.

Hi Adrian,
You must be related to my husband (James & Ellen are his 2x G Grandparents), which Wilcox are you connected to? I can't find a marriage for James Wilcox to Ellen Cope/ Coupe at all and I haven't found a first marriage for him (might be worth checking St. Matthew's, Walsall records?). After Ellen's death he married Charlotte in Pelsall but in 1881 she's in the workhouse and he is living with Henry & Elizabeth (he died not long after so presumably he was being nursed).
I've found Ellen's baptism in Balderstone but like Ellen the rest of the family apart from her brother George seem to have left the area in the 1840's.
