Sorry, just realised you had attached a transcript of the indenture to your post. Very kind of you.

I have found Charles in the 1851 census living in Redditch so he must have moved there shortly after his apprenticeship was completed.

I would love to know the connection between your family and mine.

As far as I know Charles and Eliza had two sons and a daughter. Their son John Charles was my Great, Great Grandfather. I have the marriage certificates for  both Charles and Eliza and for John Charles and Maria Croxall. Family story is that John Charles married Maria against his mother's wishes.

I have never been able to identify marriage certificates or death certificates for Charles and Eliza's other two children Edward and Isabel. Are you descended from one of them? Or maybe from one of John Charles and Maria's many children?

Maria had 4 children before she married John Charles, we presume, from family folk lore, they were all John's and 8 after they got married.

I was born and brought up in Studley Warwickshire. For a few months, between college and starting my nursing training I worked in one of the needle factories.

I would love to have a copy of the indenture and would happily pay for any costs would you be willing to send me a copy.

Regards
Helen

I am amazed Dave! I given up on this post as it had been silent for so long.

I am intrigued as to how and why you have an apprenticeship indenture for what sounds like my ancestor. Can you tell me where you got it from/ where I can get a copy from? Does it give any details like address etc?

Winsham is a long way from Nottinghamshire, I wonder how they made contact in the first place. Charles eventually ended up in Redditch, Worcs. Also a long way from both Winsham and Notts.

It always surprises me the long distances our ancestors travelled!

Thanks for your help so far, looking forward to hearing more

Thanks so much, you just turned a bad week and a dreadful day into a great one!

Found loads of info and even ordered a print of a photo of the Sanatorium taken 1906.

Thanks again

Worcestershire / Knightwich TB Sanitorium

I have a photo of my Grandmother when she was in a TB Sanitorium aged about 11years in about 1919/20. She has identified it as being Knightwell Sanitorium and I seem to remember her telling me it was in Worcestershire.

Sometime back somebody, somewhere gave me a link to a webpage that had some info on Knightwich but I broke the cardinal law.....

"Thou shalt save EVERY scrap of info, on the computer, on disk and on paper"

and I can't find the info anywhere.

Can anyone help, I promise not to loose it again if you'll help me find it
Thanks for reading this

Morning all, back slightly better today.

Sylviaann, you are of course right getting a birth cert would be cheaper but I am researching a common name, Porter and I have to be in London for other reasons so I thought I'd try an narrow it down this way.

Truth is I just like hanging around in Record Offices. Sad but very, very true.

Brain addled with painkillers for bad back so can't think straight today!

I know I know this but can someone remind me....

Where would I look for baptism records for Euston area about 1865? I need to book a trip down to London to look in relevant record office and need to find hotel nearby.

Only comfortable when I lie down so going back to bed!

Yes Eleanor Rosa is a family name passed down for generations to the oldest daughter.

It should have been the name I was given too but the story goes that my father didn't like the name Eleanor so I got Helen instead.

I have been wondering too if Henry and the original Eleanor Rosa had a daughter that was born between the census and perhaps died, that was also called Eleanor Rosa? Maybe I'll find her too one day.

Ah well, must keep on looking
