Thank you Shume - I think we found the passenger record for Mr Oehlmann.  As Dave says, if you can give us a link to the other record you found, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Thank you Dave. We will have a look at this.  We were hoping to try and identify some records which may have actually placed him in Australia .....but doesn't look hopeful !

Great find for Friederike, thank you !!!

Australia / German Migrants to Adelaide
« on: Wednesday 07 August 19 11:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi Guys

A friend of mine is doing her some research on her ancestry and has come across an interesting situation which I am hoping to get help with.

Her ancestor, Friedrich Wilhelm Oehlmann, was born in Magdeburg, Germany in 1825.  He married and had a number of children there.  In 1877 however, the marriage certificate of one of his sons, states that the mother was deceased, and his father (Friedrich) lived in Adelaide, Australia.

She is currently trying to establish whether this is correct, as she has found a possible death for Friedrich back in Magdeburg.  She cannot find a death for his wife Friederike Auguste Albertine Schmidt.

We have looked on ancestry, familysearch and Trove to see if we can find any record of Friedrich going to, in or back from Oz, but can't.  Does anyone know where else we can try to identify if he was actually in Adelaide and for how long ?

Thanks for your help

Thank you Trish & Alan for looking at this for me.

Alan - I will have a more detailed look at the family you have found, and as you say, get the marriage cert (so glad for the pdf trial....makes it so much quicker to get it to NZ!!).  I do remember seeing the 1881 return before but couldn't see how it fit in.  I'll look a bit closer !

Cheers
