Hi Janet,

I would love to chat to you about our connection, but I can't seem to manage sending you a direct email through this site.

Now have managed to send you a direct email so have removed my contact details from this wall.

Sussex / HENRY & MARY STEVENS
« on: Tuesday 06 May 08 07:18 BST (UK)  »
I know my Great-Grandfather was ALFRED STEVENS born 21 April 1837 in Rye, Sussex, England.  He was a ships carpenter and jumped ship here in Australia at about the age of 17 in favor of the Victorian gold-fields.  He had 2 older siblings who remained in England - Amelia Jane Stevens (c1826) and Henry William Stevens (5 Jan 1831) who I believe died in infancy.  I am also aware that their parents were HENRY STEVENS (C1799 Rye, Sussex) and his wife MARY ANN BENNETT (c1798 Yorkshire).

It is these last 2 people HENRY & MARY that I am seeking information on - my 2nd Great Grand-parents.

The last bit of data I have is that in the 1861 English Census Henry was listed as a Master Mariner, aged 62 and was the head of the household at 19 West Street, Rye, Sussex.

Living in Australia makes research in England impossible especially as I don't understand the various areas, county's, shires or whatever.  Is there anyone that can give me some information preferably with reference details?

Thanks ~ H

Australia Lookups completed / Re: Van Der Molen
« on: Tuesday 06 May 08 06:22 BST (UK)  »
I have been 'talking' with Jennifer who put me onto this site and I hope I am getting through to the lady looking for PAULINE AUGUST van der MOLEN - She is my 2nd cousin 2 removed [2C-2R].

Her mother was ERNESTINE PAULINE AUGUSTA van der MOLEN born the 15 April 1886 in Hahndorf, South Australia - my 1C-3R.

Pauline married HUGH DAVID MCCONNELL THOMPSON on the 10th May 1906 in Hahndorf, South Australia.  They had 6 children; Evelyn, Hugh, Clarence, Ronald, James and Jean.

EVELYN VIOLET GRACE THOMPSON was born 21 July 1908 in Cowell, South Australia - she is my 3C-1R.  She married CLEMENS HOSKIN and they had 4 children that I know of; Stanley, Vincent, Colleen & Peter.

My information stops at 1975 but I would dearly love to bring it forward and I can go back on Ernestine Pauline Augusta van der Molen to her Mothers Fathers Father which is her Great Grandfather born 1776.

Not knowing this system as I only came online today to talk with this lady, is there any way we can swap information without it being publicly listed?

Thanks ~ Australia
