Arnold Charles was my uncle.  My mother Vera was his sister.  Arnold lost his life when the aircraft he was in crashed upon take off and caught fire near Inverness Scotland.   He was only 20.

I have a great uncle and great aunt buried in Grantham, I believe.   Ethel Lilly Wood Stevenson died 1983 and her husband John S "Jack" Stevenson died in 1992.  Are you in that area?  I have tried to find the gravesites and/or obituaries but have been unsuccessful.  Their last address as I remember was on Pelham Crescent.  I am in Texas so it is a bit of a struggle getting info.

Thanks

I have relatives buried in Grantham, Weston Super Mare and in the Nottingham Road Cemetary in Derby.  Does anyone know if there a site that lists the graves or has pics of graves catalogued?  I live in Texas and have full access to Ancestry.com but I can't find any info on the actual gravesites.
Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Finding married names
« on: Wednesday 25 June 08 21:07 BST (UK)  »
Yesterday with the help of numerous rootschat friends I was able to identify my grandfather's parents for the first time!! He had two sisters.  I am trying to find out about their marriages so that I can possibly possibly find a living heir using their married names.  Elizabeth Nixson (also spelled Nixon in census) born 1896 in Sheffield, Yorkshire and/or Eliza Nixson born 1894.  Parents were John and Eliza Nixson.  Any help?  I understand there is possibly an heir still living in the Derbyshire region but I do not know their last name, first name is Trevor.  He would have been either Elizabeth's or Eliza's son.

Thanks for advice and help!

Thank you for the information.  I know the census takers changed spellings often and it would be easy to drop the /s/ in Nixson.  I certainly sounds like John could be the father.  I will research that a bit.

Yes you have the relationships right.  Arnold Nixson, no known peers, was raised by Albert Brown, his stepfather.  I don't believe he ever knew his real father who presumably died when he was very young.  Thus Emilia was married to Mr. Nixson first and then to Mr. Brown.
Yes Nixson is a very unusual name, making this very difficult.  Arnold married Constance Beatrice Wood and they had two children.  Arnold Charles, the son was killed in 1944.  He was RAF.  Their daughter Vera, married a U.S. Army Sergent and moved to America.
