Thank you rosie99, bearkat, and awats179 for your replies.

Yes, the street number on the address was 20 Swift Road. Sorry I didn’t put it on the original post.

I’ll pass all of this information onto my cousin and see if any of the names are familiar.

Thank you again,

sami

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Elsie Thorne - Woolston, Southampton
« on: Tuesday 30 January 24 02:40 GMT (UK)  »
Am helping a cousin who is trying to find more information on Elsie Thorne, who lived on Swift Road, Woolston, Southampton. My cousin has part of a letter dated 1974 that was sent to her grandmother and is signed by “Aunt Elsie”. Wondering how to go about finding more about this Elsie Thorne.

Have been looking for online obituaries or city directories but haven’t found anything.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thank you Bookbox. That’s the first time I’ve come across that name.

Thanks shanreagh and maddys52 for your input.

Happy Holidays everyone.

Is it Douglas?

Not sure, I can’t make out the first letter. To me it looks like  __auslap.

It looks like "Hauslan" to me, but I'm no expert, and I'm not sure if that is even a name.

I usually look at this page of old law hands if I need to decipher old writing.
https://sites.rootsweb.com/~oel/lawhandslg.html

I’ve been wondering if it’s in Latin. It dates to 1680 and some of the other entries have been in Latin. Thank you for the page of letters. That looks very useful.

Can anyone help with this burial record? What is the forename above Joseph Clarke?

Richard Archer and Jone Brudford...

The rest is correct.

Thank you.
