Thanks for all that information from 2 and a half years ago. I thought I had replied at the time, but it must have gone astray.

Hi Kerry,
Yes I have quite a lot on Richard Williams. Unfortunately I haven't been able to identify his birth/baptism record or his parents.
I know that he married an Elizabeth Jones b 1812 in Llanrwst, Gwynedd.
I have no idea whether they met in Abersytwyth or Llanrwst or even in Salford/Manchester. I do know that by 1936 they were living in Salford and that their first child was christened in a welsh chapel in Manchester. By 1851 they had moved back to Aberystwyth. The children were John b 1836 Salford, Richard b 1840 Salford, Thomas b 1843 Salford, Margaret b 1845 Salford, Mary b 1846 Aberystwyth?, Elizabeth b 1850 Aberystwyth and Jane b 1851 Aberystwyth.

I have failed to find any record of their marriage, after fairly extensive searches in Aberystwyth and Manchester record offices.

I can trace several of the children and their families.

I will be glad to share more with you. I am on Genes Reunited and ancestry.co.uk.

Sian

Thanks ollieandjas.
I think I'm more interested in why Manchester rather than any other city I suppose.

I have a somewhat tenuous connection with tea dealers and Llanrwst.
My ancestor Richard Williams was born Llanbadarn Fawr/Aberystwyth in 1814 and married an Elizabeth Jones from Llanrwst. I don't know when or where the marriage took place. By 1836 they were living in Salford, Lancashire and the 1841 census lists Richard's occupation as grocer. By 1851 he had returned to Aberystwyth and his occupation was tea dealer.

I also have Williams family in Aberystwyth with a Lancashire connection. Richard Williams b 1814 Llanbadarnfawr was living in Salford in 1841, christened his eldest son in the Cooper Street-Late Oak Street chapel -Calvinistic Methodism, Manchester, Lancashire, England. A further 3 children were born in Salford before the family returned to Aberystwyth, sometime before 1851. As the Williams in this topic was not born in Aberystwyth there is probably no connection, but I am interested to know why Aberystwyth people went to Manchester.

I'm researching the Richards branch of my family in the Neath and Llanelly areas. I'm stuck on finding out more about the wife of my ggg grandfather David Richards b abt 1811 in Neath. Her name was Susan Paine and she was born in Crowcombe Somerset in abt 1820. I think her father was called John, but have been able to find out any more about her.
