Hello Dawn32,

Yes it sounds like we are researching connected trees.  I am the granddaughter of Philip's son Alfred.  I have names for the other 5 sons and daughters of Philip from information supplied by my Dad.  But his memory for spouses and children is not good.

Let me know if you are looking for any specific info and i might have it :-)

I have attached (hopefully) a photo of my Grandfather Alf.

Thank you everyone for your help.

I have now received the Birth & Marriage certificates for Griffith.

Our suspicions were correct - no father listed.

So i guess we will never know the Father .........

But the mystery of which sibling he belonged to is now solved ........  his Mother is listed as Maggie Petty.

:-)

Hello,

Thanks very much for the info regarding Catherine Graham & also Catherine Graham Fingland.

It is lovely to see how other peoples tree's overlap with our own.

Catherine Graham's father Andrew is my ggg uncle (i think!).

I am descended from his brother James who married Janet Duff & later Janet Pirnie.

Thanks again for contacting me  :)

Thanks for the help,

I will send off for the birth certificate to solve the mystery.

Any further info regarding Griffith, from church or MI records would also be interesting :-)

Hello

I am trying to confirm the father of Griffith John Petty (born 1897).  Family info suggests he was born near Llangynwyd/Nantyffython/Maesteg.

I have found him on the 1901 Wales census, living with his Grandparents (John/Sarah Petty) in Maesteg.  John & Sarah had 7 children (Mary Ann, Thomas, Rachel, David, Sarah, Maggie & John), so i guess any of them could be one of his parents?

Does anyone have any ideas or access to the relevent records  :)

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the industrial school info.

A real eye opener indeed! Sounds like the kids all had a bad start to life and were probably trainee criminals.

The school must have done some good for James as he learned a trade as a tailor.

Though he died at 32 so something nasty may still have happened to him !

:-)

CaroleW & Pegasuss,

Thanks very much for your help - Gosh you have found out loads!

I was totally thrown by James Cox being listed as being born in Ireland on the 1891 census.  This is probably an error as all the other entries say Manchester.

I knew that he had died quite young as he is listed as deceased on Herbert's wedding certificate in 1908 - but thanks to you two I now know that he died much earlier !

Do you know anything about "Industrial Schools" - I wondered if they were similar to workhouses?

Thanks again :-)

Lancashire / "Completed with thanks" - James Cox / Herbert Cox

Hello,

I am having trouble with the Lancashire branch of my family research.

My gg father Herbert Cox lived in Chorley and was born in 1886 (married Mary Alice Horrocks in 1908).

All I know about him is that his father was a tailor called James Cox.

Does anyone have any ideas or family links to help me get somemore information about these ancestors?

I have found a possible family on the 1891 census but they are living in Blackburn.

All ideas are welcome  :)

Thankyou.
