Hi,
My dad is called James Bryson and he was born in Watt St and he is James Alexander Bryson's Grandson.  He has been googling and has come across this thread and has discovered that his Grandad James Alexander was in fact married twice...he never knew this...  He really wants to find out about his Grandads child Helen Mcalpine Bryson. He wants to know about her life after her mother died.  Did she stay with James Alexander or what happened to her?

My dad, James Bryson who is after this information now lives in Bristol.  His laptop broke down last night as he was reading all the comments so he asked if i could try and get him some info and pass on his number for anyone to call him who knows anything.... or you can reply to me...

Thank you

Lucy x

I am Helen Brysons granddaughter,  I am doing this on my phone so will get back to you tomorrow on the computer.

hi I just wanted to say thanks to hume24 and Lora [damnonii] for their help in tracing my grandmothers brother, James Bryson, I have contacted various members of the family and none of them knew about this tragedy.  Even my uncles [children of my grandmother] were unaware of this.  So sad.

Thanks for all  your help

I have been looking on google and found a couple of articles about the ship and the turbines were quite new then I think that might have been the first ship with the new type, it says the water heated up to 750 degrees, what agony those two men must have gone through.

I also read that the ship cost £69,000 and the first trial trip was on 7th september 1927 so my grandmothers brother had only been on it for a few weeks.

I agree its shocking that they seemed more concerned about the ship than the men killed.

hi Lora,
I got the articles ok, thanks for them.
I noticed on the first one it did not even mention them by name and even the second one did not say too much.  I agree with you they probably did not want too much publicity, I had a look to see if there was anything on google about it but did not find anything.

I only put that article on here this afternoon and I am really grateful for the help I have had.

thanks again

Hi
thanks for the reply.  I have the BMD of Leah Wilkie, she sadly died aged just 31, just a few weeks before that her 7 week old daughter died so very tragic but not unusual I have found, I also have the BMD for most of her family and the Bryson family, its just the James born 1900 that is hard to find.  I will double check the Port Glasgow one but I think I have looked at that already, but thanks very much for your help its much appreciated.

I am trying to find out more information about my grandmothers brother James A Bryson, he was born 11th January 1900 in Greenock, It says I Broomhill Street Greenock but on the 1901 census it states he was living in Drumfrochar Road.  My grandmother Helen McAlpine Bryson was born at 1 Broomhill Street also.

James parents were James Alexander Bryson [b.1876-1944] and Leah Wilkie [b.1876-1907]  I have James birth certificate but can find no more information about him I wonder if he may have emigrated]

James father James Bryson remarried after his wifes death.  He married an Elizabeth Torrance in 1908.

any help would be much appreciated thanks
