Other Countries / Re: Barbados Records

Hi dismo,

I think you will have to go to or contact the National Archives at Black Rock as that is where most of the older records are kept.  I'm not sure that 1880 would have been transferred to the main Register Office, but they might have the records as well.

Both can be contacted via snail mail!

Julie

Other Countries / Re: Barbados History - Kirtons
« on: Sunday 03 May 20 15:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi Sarah,

I know that it was a long time ago that you posted this query, if you already have this information I apologise.

Kirtons is an area (in the UK would probably be called a hamlet) in the parish of St Philip, SE of the island.  Most areas on the island are named after the plantation that was most often there.  Indeed, there was a Kirtons plantation and a good site - Creole Links, states that the owners were : 1796 Edwin Lascelles: 1801 James Nurse : 1826 James Nathaniel Crichlow : 1841 Philip Lytcott Applewaite and 1844 In Chancery.

Other Countries / Re: Barbados Marriage Records
« on: Saturday 02 May 20 20:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi AuntyGene,

Marriage records can be searched at the main Register Office in Bridgetown - they are listed in indexes that the public (for a small fee) can access.  However after 1969 marriage records are on a card index to which the public do NOT have access, so an officer at the Register office would have to look for you.  It is possible to contact them by snail mail I believe, but I think the response is quite slow - absolute Stop now!!  as they are only offering the basic service.  There are no online records available for more recent events.

Regards,

Julie

Other Countries / Re: What's on a Barbadian Death Certificate?
« on: Saturday 02 May 20 19:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  I know it was a very long time ago you posted this query!!!

I have a Barbados death certificate.  It lists - Name : Age : Marital Status : Date of death : place of death : Sex : Date of registration : Registration number (if any) : National Registration number

Unfortunately less than on a UK certificate, no mention of informant or date of birth.  Trust me, the age at death is often an educated guess.

I am in Barbados so if there is any other help you need with this (I note your last entry was regarding payment), please let me know.  Although, like the rest of the World, we're going nowhere at the moment!!

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Re: Kedington birth look up please - Christopher Burton
« on: Friday 11 April 14 09:51 BST (UK)  »
Thank you all very much for your efforts.  "annes" - to answer your question - I do not know where they were living when he was born, but on census records Christopher's birthplace is variously Kitting, Ketting and Kedlington, Suffolk. I cannot find him anywhere on the 1871 - yet the rest of the family are in Lambeth by then.  There is a Christopher Rawlinson in a school in Sudbury - but I don't think it's likely.     Julie

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Kedington birth look up please - Christopher Burton
« on: Thursday 10 April 14 09:40 BST (UK)  »
I have Christopher Burton on the BMD index - July 1861 Risbridge 4a 372.  Before I purchase the certificate can anyone help?  I believe his mother is Frances Burton who married William Rowlinson at Withersfield or Thurlow in 1863.  Christopher is not with this family in the 1871 census but is, named Rowlinson, in 1881.  William's first wife Harriet Guymer did not die until 1862.  So I think Christopher may be Frances' son from an earlier relationship but can't find anything to support this.  So.....can anyone check the parish records for mother and father of Christopher please.  Thank you

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Guymer/Gimer/Gymer - Weston Colville
« on: Tuesday 08 April 14 20:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have Robert Guymer bap 5 June 1743 at Weston Colville.  I THINK his parents are John Gimer and Anne Adams but can't be sure.  I would appreciate this being confirmed or otherwise and did he have any siblings.   Also it is possible John Gimer was married previously - maybe to Elizabeth Pluckrose - any record of this or children from this union?

Thank you very much,
Julie

Thank you lizdb  yes you're right but I was hoping someone might have that tiny bit of elusive information I'm seeking!!  I have trawled the internet for Robert Gaunt, overseer records for Benington et al.  HALS do not have a record for Susannah in any of the three parishes I've mentioned, nor does FindMyPast, although they have two possibles, Little Hadham 1768 and Abbott's Langley 1766, but either would make her over 21 in 1793.  I'm wondering if she is in fact from Herts at all - I believe pauper children could be shunted to another parish as an "apprentice".
