I found this post on the immigrant ship Empire ,My GGGrandfather father & family arrived in Australia on this ship in 1853 , I note that it sailed from Liverpool ,I was certain that my ancestors left from Dundee in Scotland as I have read it in his personal diary, also of great interest was the letter from the passengers committee to the Captain, written by the Secretary of the group George Carter, My GGGrandfather was the same, George Carter,

Thanks Lesely, I was fascinated by the old round tower building in the Church yard, I was told that a watch was kept there the night before a funeral to guard against body snatchers,

I believe that my GGGrandparents were married in this church 1837, my question is , is it the same Church that is there today & how can I access the Church records re. the marriage of George Carter & Jane Gilholm , I was able to visit this place about 5 years ago ,but was unable to go inside as the place was locked but a very interesting Churchyard,
Cheers,

I had an uncle who,s nickname was Doode , never knew why he was called that, When visiting the Borders area of Scotland ,Roxbrough where my GGreat grandfather lived for many years before coming to Australia a lady helping me with my history told me that as his name was George he would have been known as Doode, Another mystery cleared up,
