oh my goodness,  thank you so much for all your hard work and sharing this information. it shows that the story of John Wilson is true apart from the part where he supposed to have died a few days later. it does look like Edward is likely the father of my great grandfather. on another record it says that my grandfather is  William Edwin but not sure whether its been unclear record so hard to tell what it is.

and your right it can't be our Edward Littler who died on the tracks, he would have been in his late fifties/sixty by this time.

My second great grandmother Esther married her lodger Edward Littler, (born in budworth cheshire) in St Helens 1874 after her first husband died approximately 1866? her son my great grandfather may be the son of the lodger as he was born in 1868 but on his birth certificate it says father unknown. I had been trying to confirm the death date for her first husband John Wilson who was born in warrington. according to a family story John apparently was hit by a railway truck which damaged his legs and he died days later. I haven't been able to find a record confirming this. However I was having a browse on a local history site called Sutton beauty and heritage and I came across a suicide report for an Edward Littler. for sept 1905. this man had died on the train tracks. after the story of the first husband dying after an accident i wondered if the stories had got mixed up and maybe this Edward Littler could possibly be my relative. I cannot find a death record for him on lancashire bmd or a church burial. I would appreciate any help trying to find any information for either of these men

Thank you al so much for taking the time to look for information for me. It looks like his first marriage was in 1885 and not 1884 that is quoted in the article. apart from mary hughes marriage which doesn't fit with his age  there doesn't appear to be any more that fit for that year.  Thank you  karen

James died in 1898 age 46 so his age on his marriage to mary ellen wilson is right...if it is him that married mary ellen hughes then I wonder if it should have read 32 not 22... if not then its the wrong couple but I cant find another couple with those names who married in 1884

I know they lived at peasley cross lane..but not sure if that was in 1901 ...James is missing off that census ...her step father Edward and step brother Alfred are listed along with her children but not sure if it is hers or her stepfathers house they are living in

Kit the wedding for james and mary ellen wilson is correct. Her dad was john wilson and was deceased at the time of her marriage. The mary ellen hughes 1884 marriage does fit in with date mentioned on st helens beauty site ......I was searching last night and came across a james harrison and mary ellen hughes but on this link his father name was different and he died later so that threw me and wondered if I was barking up the wrong tree
