Watching a nature program about one of the South American countries, can't quite remember it was a long time ago but the part about potatoes stuck in my mind, because the potato can cross breed it is always creating new varieties so at all times there are varieties that will not be affected by the blight conditions at any given time so in their natural environment blight isn't a major problem more a localised issue.
it doesnt seem thankgod to progress further than potatoes doesnt infect other rooted vegetables or cross over to sweet potatoes so why doesnt someone look into why that is and see if there is something about sweet potatoes that blight doesn like and crossbreed them to decrease the liklihoood of it ever happening again?

my hugh smith lost his wife and 5 children to this and the disease that followed never so fa found out his late wifes name nor those of his children or what happened to any remaining children and what their names were either can anyone help with this because karen mob me and Carrter would be interested i am sure as we are all related to smith in Ireland and scotlandand
 karenmob if you wish when I go to Ireland in february I wil check records at registry house in Dublin see what I can find out send me a pm.if you wish me to check this westmeath is where they had a irish whiskydistilllery like the one they had in campbelltown in argyll in scotland  they manufacture morning dew i bought some for my husband year before last and i dont een think he has as yet tried it and now i know why same with a lot of other things that have happened over the last 5yrs.

the disease blew across to the islands around scotland robert traill was a dctor on the isle of mull i believe and angus mcsweeney is the genealogist for the islands and apparently robert traill and his family were all involved in trying to help everyryone who arrived there giving up pssrt of his house theiir food etc and free medical help until thy could not help ay further and he and his wife lost their lives his wife i believe was sybilla sutherland not sure here i got any of this information from it was all so long ago before my stroke so if anyone wishes to investtigate and check these statements by all means do please.
