New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: NZ emigration records
« on: Thursday 03 August 23 07:22 BST (UK)  »
Yes please share this great resource.  It lets you narrow down exact dates in the NZBDM with a single click and is a nicer way to search Archway.

That's a resource I've not come across. Thanks for posting the link.

I'd like to add it to NZ Resources & Offers if that's ok with you?

Regards,

Spades

Have you seen the NZ Ancestor helper?
https://ash.howison.co.nz/?name=reuben+baldwin
This search tool is designed to assist with NZ-focused genealogical research, by collating results from NZ DIA's Births, Deaths and Marriages, Archives NZ, dozens of council cemetery websites, military records from Auckland Museum Online Cenotaph and many other online history resources.
If that's the Reuben BALDWIN who was on the Stadt Haarlem in 1879, he was travelling with my SMALL ancestors from Kent.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Confirming the name of boy Trigg
« on: Monday 05 June 23 02:06 BST (UK)  »
Belinda Lansley's book on the "Brothers Pride & Bahia" in the "Ancestral Journeys of New Zealand" series mentions the Trigg family without naming the twins. Hannah Trigg gave birth to twin sons on 11 Nov, (page 45), Hannah died on 27 Nov 1863 and one infant son died on 6 Nov (page 47).  Also on p 47 "The newspapers failed to report the death  (at Camp Bay) of a 2 week old infant named Hathaway on 16 December .... a few days later it was Christmas Day and another 6 week old child died, named Trigg".

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Where was Mrs. Williams buried?
« on: Wednesday 19 April 23 08:19 BST (UK)  »
I infer from the article that Mrs C Williams died of fever on the passage out from England.  Only Mr C. Williams, 4 children and a servant are said to have arrived at Lyttelton on June 12.  I expect she was buried at sea.

I found a similar one and wondered why there was a notice in the paper at all ... no fussing around here:

RUSSELL— O'BRIEN - On 12th January, 1886, at Wellington (New Zealand), Henry Russell, to Mary O'Brien. No cake, no cards, and everybody mind their own business.

Clackmannanshire / Re: Michie Lineage in Clackmannanshire
« on: Sunday 03 October 21 07:31 BST (UK)  »
I come to this thread late.  I descend from Alexander MICHIE (1644-1723) and Isobel SNADON (1646-1681) through their son Alexander.  They are my 8th G Grandparents. Through the many Michie Snadon Paterson family intermarriages I have a number of DNA matches around the world, especially in Utah.
Regarding Fanny Frances Erskine SNADON, I have her parents as James Snadon b 1740 and Isobel Paterson b 1744 from her baptism 22 Dec 1765.
My line from Alexander MICHIE (68-1740) and Janet McLAREN (1660-) goes John MICHIE (1691-1764) James MICHIE (1735-) Isabella MICHIE (1763-1863) James MICHIE (1801-1863)
Then James MICHIE (1830-1917) who came to New Zealand about 1873 and had his name recorded here as James McKAY.  He's my GG grandfather.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Christchurch Cremation Records

I usually receive a prompt response when I fill in the form and have never been charged.  There may not be much information apart from the location of the memorial, however.

I think you might struggle to identify such people.  This is the Obituary for my GG grandmother Eliza LE COMTE nee BURKE who was transported to Tasmania from Dublin at the age of 17 for stealing some calico cloth.
https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/AMBPA19030904.2.11

When she died in 1903 she was "a much respected Peninsula settler ...  a typical Peninsula matron, thoroughly domesticated and hospitable, and liked by all with whom she came in immediate contact. "

Technical Help / Re: Ancestry DNA matches - problem scrolling

It's Ancestry.  I use Firefox and it started happening recently.  Pressing F5 to refresh the screen usually fixes it.
