Hi I've hit a brick wall with a shoemaker named John Smith (abt 1818-) of Halstead. He's in the 1851 Census at 27 High Street, Halstead, with his wife Susan (abt 1818-) and several children, the first of which - John Smith - was born about 1836. But no trace of John Smith Sr or his wife in the 1841 Census or after 1851. Most likely John and Susan married about 1835/36. I've checked the IGI collection Essex Parish Registers, 1538-1900  without success - perhaps it doesn't include the Halstead registers?.

I'd like to know the maiden name of John's wife Susan and when they married. I'd also like to identify their parents if possible - the 1851 Census suggests both John Smith and Susan were born in Halstead around 1818.

Many thanks

Hi I am wondering if your John Smith could be a brother to my Sarah Jane Smith born 3 March 1816 in Halstead and who married John George Skinner on 12 Oct 1834 in Halstead. The are my 3rd g grandparents and migrated to Sth Australia in 1840 on the 'Orleana' Any info would be great. I have a very extensive tree on ancestry but am stuck on Sara Jane Smiths family.

If I go to Tree Settings, and the Sharing tab, I get a screen with a button that says "Invite People".

Clicking on that brings up a screen "Invite to xxxxx Family Tree", with buttons marked

Hi, KGerrad
i am on ancestry.co.uk also .....I get that far (as above) but no buttons marked for email or usernames etc. just "Invite to xxxxx Family Tree",
this is the first time I have had a problem with this

is anyone else having problems using the 'invite' or 'share your tree' link on ancestry?
I have sent an email to them - guess what - no reply!
i go to Tree pages - click on 'share your tree - and nothing happens.
If i go to 'tree pages' then 'tree settings' and 'sharing'  the 'manage invitees' page comes up and the 'invite people' box .i click on that and just get a message saying invite to........but nothing else
hoping for som insight

totally agree! It seems the other pages are fine - just the people page and the 'time-line ' is definately too wasted in space. Maybe if a lot of us send feed-back - on right hand side of each page -we may get something better. But I won't hold my breath.

"AUSTRALIA WAS ALWAYS DESTINED TO BE A GREAT COUNTRY. AFTER ALL WE HAD THE WORLD'S BEST JUDGES SELECTING ITS INHABITANTS"

Now that is a great saying...mind if i borrow it?
I was born in Sth Aust so we always said ...ha, no convicts here but Australia  did, as a whole, get the more interesting Brits!
