Thank you everyone. I did see the newspaper article from 1977 about the sad loss of a child. The letter I have dated 1988 mentioned other children so making an assumption there are more, possibly alive today which as I understand makes them hard to trace in Australia. I’ll try the VIC bdms as it would seem the family were living there in 1988. Thank you!

Hello, I’m trying to find out what happened to my 1st cousin who was born in Scotland and emigrated to Melbourne. He was born 26/5/34 in Leith, Edinburgh and parents applied to remain in Australia  after the war in 1946 (see https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/11977252?token=7b22746f6b656e223a2250734c586755516b624873476c68733835486d4a6b79792f732f4b6b47724f5447576170784b5a34474f593d222c22746f6b656e5f76657273696f6e223a225632227d).

1. I haven’t found a death certificate which could be in VIC (his last known address in 1988 was Port Melbourne)

2. He mentioned children in a letter from 1988 but no names and I’d like to get in contact with them.

Thanks to any Australia genealogy experts out there!

Thanks so much! How very interesting since it would seem that:

William McCulloch the younger of 32 Ludgate Street (also near the retail address) for W&M (https://blog.mcculloch.scot/2021/02/wales-mcculloch.html) was the brother of Charles McCulloch, seedsmen of Butler & McCulloch (https://blog.mcculloch.scot/2023/06/butler-mcculloch.html). I had thought there was a fair chance of relation since McCulloch is only common in those times in Wigtownshire, Scotland.

It is a bit of a leap - perhaps there could be 2 x McCulloch seedsmen in London. I don't know the first names of the McCulloch proprietor of Butler & McCulloch yet.

Thanks Andy!
I have not come across MacCulloch and Wallis before! I probably walked past their shop many times when I worked in the area. Thanks for a new line of enquiry :)
Best wishes,
Neil

I thought it might be of interest to post my website here: www.pastpin.com.
It is a free search engine of historical photographs from around the world.
Optionally, you can help it improve by suggesting the location or the date of a photo (if you like solving puzzles!).

Hello!

I'm researching this London Victorian retailer established in 1853 with a goal of finding out who the "McCulloch" was. The business traded for about 70 years near St Paul's. You can read my current research journey at https://blog.mcculloch.scot/2021/02/wales-mcculloch.html.

Any information about the founding of the company would be of particular interest. I've also contacted Companies House (no records beyond last 20 years) and National Archives (pending response).

Many thanks and best wishes,
Neil

Hi folks,

I'm researching McCulloch and McCullough and the variations. You can check out my one name study at https://one-name.org/name_profile/mcculloch/ and my website at www.mcculloch.scot.

Particularly interested in hearing from anyone seeking to connect their McCulloch branch back to to Scotland.

Best wishes,
Neil

Thanks Wivenhoe. Yes, that’s the death with her adoptive names and parents. She was adopted around 1921.
