Connect phone to PC via USB cable.
Look for well hidden prompt in Android that asks you to confirm connection
The phone memory will then show up as a "disk" in Windows file explorer
You can drag, drop, copy photos as you wish.

The secret is to look out for the Android prompt, that may not be obvious on the phone - look in "Notifications".

If you look at National Archives WO 416/225/360  you will see a German record card for this POW at Stalag XXA Thorn. Date of Capture: 22/05/1940.   So he was definitely a POW in 1940.
POWs who were badly injured or very ill could be repatriated to UK in a prisoner exchange.   This may be what happened to your man.
I would request his full Army records from MOD or NA to determine what happened here.

The numbers are the date of the month - you might guess that from their range 1-31.   The letters after the date are an abreviation of the number, in Latin - looks to be generally the last two letters of the Latin name.

secundo    second
tertio    third
quarto    fourth
quinto    fifth
sexto    sixth
septimo    seventh
octo    eighth
nono    ninth
decimo    tenth
......

Even so, try rebooting the router. In my experience, that sometimes fixes probelm that a device reboot does not fix.

General advice for any misbehaving App.   In this case Google Play.
Go to Settings/Apps and select the App
Hit Force Stop.
Hit Clear Cache - not Clear Data
Reboot the device.
Try again.
