'White Cliff', would be Whiteleaf.  Whiteleaf comes under Monks Risborough, and is close to Askett.

Askett comes under Monks Risborough, Bucks, which in turn is close to Princes Risborough.

The Welsh connection is purely for work. 1835 onwards was the zenith for the railways and after.

Much of the money invested in the Railways was from the end of the Slave trade, and the slave owners were compensated £20 million in compensation for their losses from 1834 onwards. That would be £Billions by todays rates.

Oh yes, sorry about that.  I did assume that it was his second marriage. But the link with the I.o.M was what made me think about looking there for wife No.1.

Cannot pin down John Garrett in the 1841 census with any certainty, nor his parents(absolutely nothing). Perhaps his siblings may bare some clues.?
