Europe / Germany Calling!!!
« on: Tuesday 26 April 11 21:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I really need some suggestions really.

My boss has asked for my help in tracking down a old friend, who he met back in 1975 in Leipzig. I've never done any research in Germany and am quite over whelmed by all the posts. I've looked at some, tried some of the link, but am not really sure if I'm going down the right path. He believe his friend married after 1975 in either Leipzig, Weimar or Berlin. Is it possible to get copies of Marriage certificates in Germany.

Clearly as these are probably going to be living people, it's going to be hard to track them, I imagine, especially as I only have the Brides names and the husbands first name, not helpful I know.

Any suggestions???

Sue

Cathy

You could be onto something here. Why would Mary Joseph(yes that is what it says on her 1911 census) and William J Elliott have different reference No's. I would certainly fit in as follows: William meets Mary in Ireland, they marry, return to England where Violet Minnie was born in 1907, Mary returns to Ireland to have son William E, then returns to England again with both children, to In-Laws in Essex, William must have been home in between postings in the 8th Hussars - then they all disappear after 1911 - mybe back to Ireland after 1919 when William J leaves the Army, hum

I can see light at the end of the Tunnel Cathy

Hi  :)

I'm trying to solve a bit of a mystery with a family member - William J Elliott, after searching hi and low, I've found his wife and 2 children living in Essex with their Grandparents Frederick Harry & Susannah Baldwin (my great grand uncle & aunt) We've had the daughters birth certificate arrive, the father is down as Frederick Harry Elliott - profession Private 8th Hussars.

8th Hussars means nothing to me, so I need some ideas on this please. In 1911 where would he have been as he was not on the Census?

On a hunch I found a WW1 service record (I can send this privately if needed) which tells that William J Elliott did as I suspected, changed his name to Frederick Harry Baldwin or visa versa.
Why I wonder?

It states that he served in France in 1915 and was discharged in 1919, so he survived the war at least.

I can find no further military records for either variation of his names ie: pension or service records, can anyone else???

Any help with this would be much appreciated by my cousin and myself,  we are pulling our hair out with this family. Oops I forgot to mention, William J's wife was of Irish Origin, Rockett by name so will post a message on the Irish board if there is one.

Kind Regards
Sue

An address for JAF Rivest in Canada, pre marriage:

Don't worry I don't give up that easily.
We feel that the E.Barrow person is related to the mother of Wandsa Kathleen V Haldane, who was Violet Mary Barrow (we are still working on this line).

M.Ross was living with family friends Ralph James Green, Wandsa's husband, pre marriage, M.Ross was working as a Waitress then. B.Lacousse we believe was possibly a army friend of Joseph's.

Have found a website for  La Regiment Maisonneuve, but it's currently undergoing work so is not available at the moment.
