Heraldry Crests and Coats of Arms / Deciphering Family Crest of sugar nips
« on: Friday 16 June 17 21:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have these sugar nips dating London 1875. On the end of them, is an engraving from a Coat of Arms.
I know this is probably a long shot, but does anyone out there recognise it?
I have done some googling, but cant seem to find it.
We were told it was someone of importance who had these.
I can see a crown, lions paw/fist holding a club. Or is it a bears paw?
Please tell me what you can see, any help/thoughts much appreciated x

Hi,

What great photo's!   Im hoping you have maybe come accross any Bull's , Evanson's (Evenson?)  on your travels here.
Names in a long long list of them include William Bull b1835 died march 1887 @James st, monks coppenhall. and Matilda Evenson b1854 and died 1903 in the workhouse. Also Matilda's 3 children.. Lucy Bull b1890 died 1890 4months, Maud Bull b 1890(twin of Lucy) died 1891 22 months, and Lilian Bull b1892 died 1892 3 months old. All births and deaths in workhouse, nantwich.

so this wouldve been during ww2, which narrows it down alot date wise. My mother was born in 1945 in Shropshire, and nan was married in 1943 i think. Nan's family all came from Cheshire, so they wouldve made the move to Shropshire roughly a year before my mothers birth. The picture definately isnt in Shropshire, and i dont recognise it as being in cheshire either so im guessing it was taken somewhere else and between 1942-43.

Could anyone please date my Nan? On the back of the photograph is written "mum stokes" and indicated herself "mrs Harding" with a cross above her head. Any chance that the numbers on the back of it would tell me anything about the photograph?

Thank you for that Stan, much appreciated. Guess im of for a trip to cheshire in search of Nantwich records to see if  i can find  her and her 3 babies! Do you or anyone else know exactly what the Guardian's minutes would tell me?

As for Shawheath, Stockport emailed me back and were extrememly helpful on other matters, but unfortunately they have no surviving records for that time period. Seems my great grandma's admission etc to Shawheath is going to remain a complete mystery to me and my family, which is a shame. My mother and my aunt have so many questions they would like answered. I feel i have exhausted all avenues on those years.

Cheshire / Shawheath union workhouse

Hi,

Can anyone tell me where the records are kept for the ShawHeath Union Workhouse please? and what if anything, they can tell me about my relative?
I contacted Stockport Library and they dont have the admission records there for the years 1912-1917.
My Great Grandma died there, and she had a daughter born 1911. I would like to know if my Nan was also in the workhouse with her when she died in 1917.
Im also on the track of Nantwich Union workhouse records as my Great Great Grandma also died in that one along with 3 of her babies.
