Afternoon all,

I'm looking for some assistance on where I can find my Grandads Auxiliary Fire Service Record.

He served in the Castleford/Pontefract/Garforth areas of West Yorkshire during the early stages of the war until he was injured in the Xmas raid on Salford after being drafted in to assist in fire fighting at the docks.

From there he went on to serve in the fire service at the Royal Ordnance Factory Filling Station No9 at Thorp Arch where he eventually became Station Officer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Dave

I have found a Samuel Sneed in the Canadian archives in a Garrison Battalion in 1781/82.

His Son did emigrate to America in 1816. I'm wondering if Samuel emigrated to America and joined a Loyalist Regiment? The only one I can find that existed at that time was the 105th. And then returned to the UK at the end of the war.

It's on Ancestry and the information came from the title.

Hi Shaun,

The only clues I have is the title of the document mentioning "Served in Canada" and a Regiment between the 105th and 135th Foot.

He marries in 1785 in Audley his given place of residence and birth.

Hello all,

I'm trying in vain to find out which regiment my 5x Great Grandfather Samuel Sneyd (Snead/Sneed) served in during the wars in Canada.

I have his Chelsea Pensioner record stating that he was wounded in the wars in Canada sometime between 1771 and 1783 prior to being admitted into the "Royal Garrison Battalion" in Chester.

He was born around 1754-1756 in Audley in Staffordshire.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks MaxD,

That would probably make sense as it would most probably be 2 years down the line from the photo.

Can't find anything under his name or service number (498084) though!
